This and that, hockey, writing and other stories. Plus a still choppy story editor. |

I was very tied last night and I went to bed at midnight but all I could do was just lay there. Coast was boring and I got in and out of bed and decided to pull an all nighter and stay up to work on “F” I did I did 1094 words not counting back story references. That’s what took up most of my writing time but time spent to good use. Anne had left one of her Hamsters trapped in here and I don’t like that at al. There-cord chewer’s would have eaten this place alive with all the cords to my computer. She forgot to remove it and I heard something periodically scurrying about in here but I figured it was the cat but then when I got to pee and came back in just before the cbi thing I saw her by the floor board at the office door threshold. Right now Anne is out with my cheaque taking care of business. We have enough for our rent and bills and even $20 for me. I’m going to try and get a book at Audrey’s and some blank Cd’s so I can do some back up.
My reaction to the Ryan Smyth deal. Last night (missing the game and all) the Oilers lost badly. There 2nd back-to-back shut outs against them within the same week. I don’t know the full deals on the trade but it seems that Ryan Smyth and Kevin Low were only $100.000 apart. I don’t know who slammed the door first but if it was Kevin Low, then he ought to have his head examined. A grade 6-school kid could see how important Ryan Smyth is to the Oilers and the Oiler fans. If Kevin Low said no to Smyths 5.4 million dollar offer then Smyth is in the “wrong” but I can’t see Ryan Smyth leaving for 100K. This was a last minute take it or leave it 5.4 Million dollar offer. It was a good offer and I think this was Smyth’s doing not the Oilers. I mean I can’t blame him. If the boss said no to my first offer and another call center offered me more I’d leave to. But right now Smyth is a rental player. If the Islanders offer him more money during the off season then fine, we’ve got salary cap room to get a couple unrestricted free agents. Kevin Low played his cards and time was running out. If he danced with Smyth’s agent earlier this month it would have gone into a pissing match. ”Here’s 4.7, I want 4.8” type thing and that’s how I think the trade went down. I think Ryan Smyth would have stayed here at the first Oiler offer. It’s these damn agents that get in thee way. Though we might have the chance at acquiring Ryan Smyth in the off-season. It’s good incentive for the Oiler team to play for Ryan. To get into the playoffs so they have more money to deal him. For now the NY Islanders are in a slightly better position then we are and have a better chance to make the playoffs with just 19 games away anything could happen. I don’t know how many unrestricted free agents in Ryan Smyth’s caliber are going to be available in the off season but it’s going to be interesting. The Oilers still have a chance to get into the play offs this year but they’ve got to start winning some games.
All right, enough hockey. Right now “F” is sitting at just over 69K. When I come home tonight, I’m going to try and close out at 70k and at scene #44. With some creative editing I can get another 8 scenes out of the heavy scenes all ready in the story. If I did the editing now, I’d have 52 scenes. That would leave it at 28 scenes remaining and I’m going to do this on Saturday. So by my Saturday 10K deadline, scene #44 might end up being scene #52 or even 55. There are also a few shorter scenes that could be expanded. Actually there are 7 scenes that could be expanded. All these scenes are going to do if I expand is to take away from the 30K I have left to work with? So what went wrong? It’s all in the pacing. With 100k to work with each scene (in theory) should have been approximately 1250 words. I went over board figuring I could cut after and I will still need to do this. But with the 30K I have left I can strive to make these scenes around 100k each. The other thing is, I could chuck this draft when it’s completed and re do the entire draft again at 10k to re write everything from front to back but creating a “map” of each scene. The other thing is just to go ahead and work with what I got. If I go over the 100k limit to say 103k I don’t think anyone will object.
Well now, we’re into March. Right now it’s a winter wonderland out there but by the end of this long month, it’ll be pre-spring barren and warmer weather will finally come around. This spring will mark the 27th year of my daily journal and my exploration into the occult. Those were chaotic days and I certainly wouldn’t want to go back to them. I like the way things are now.
Speaking of, which today it’s into work and put my easy 3,5 hours in, After that, I’m going to pop into Audrey’s and see if they’ve got that Karen Traviss book in for me or something else. Also, lets see if they have any anthologies. I can go over to Tim’s on my way home and get a decafe and do some more work on “F” to 70k. Then it’s a bit of lunch and ECW and take it from there.
That’s all for now.
I try to proofread when there is time but sometimes I'm in s hurry and there isn't time. It's my blog, so I plead the 5th, Sorry for any typo's
