Nice day for Thursday

that was a nice unexpected day off and even after I worked those 2 hours on the story I got a great idea for another part of the story, I was struggling with and I like the way it went.

I had trouble sleeping after the other news on Coast just after 4 and I had some energy to burn off anyway so I finished the story. Just a few people know the title to the working story but hopefully after I boil this thing down to the send out to the envelope level and pop the IRC’s inside  It’s soft science fiction, 4330 words. I’m going to work on it, one version/weekend. It should be ready for the envelope May 15th Maybe.

Just sipping my coffee. After I work I’m going to run over and get my book of the week at Chapters. If I can’t find a stand alone-novel maybe I’ll get a hard cover from the discount bins. I saw Michael Crichton’s “State of fear” for $10 bucks and that looks pretty good. Meal Asher, Crichton, OSC, my kind of SF writers, ahem for obvious reasons.

Anne left out of here for her Doctors appointment at 10am this morning. I slept until she came in and she left a note for the mailman to retrieve our mail She had a $50 cheaque in there probably sitting in there for a couple of weeks. Birthday money from her sister, very nice of her. So we went downtown a bit early and cashed the cheaque and over to Tim’s. She gave me $15 to buy an Omnibus book if I wanted one and money for a Tim’s coffee and donut as well. It was only just after 4pm. I had a nice walk with Anne to ger place of work but she likes to walk around the corner and come up behind the Henry singer building in the alley of my old place of work. Army & Navy Great West Sadlery building.1978-79 and come in the alleyway to feed the birds. I continued on my way down Jasper Ave and into Audrey’s books. I went downstairs and they had my Solaris book of science fiction Anthology in so I picked that up and then into Tim’s and got a coffee and banana chocolate cream and walked into work feeling happy. I met Johnny Mac D. about to take the stairs so I kept him company on the way up. Rob was saying Happy Easter to the staff and me as I came in. I replied back nicely and sat my stuff down to go in and see JT. I mentioned about the lodge meeting and he said he mentioned this to Rob first thing this morning so Rob wouldn’t get on my case. In other words JT covered for me. Thanks JT. Greg gave me my cheaque and I was quite please with the amount. I asked Dillon if he could read my bank report for me. $1,820. Not bad at all. Anyway, work went well. I had top total by break and top total by the end of the shift. We got out at 8:30pm but it still took me an hour to get home. I could have went to Chapters after all but I’m glad I went to Audrey’s instead.

This month, I’ve got Robert J Sawyer’s “Rollback” on order and that’s a hardcover edition. Saturday, I’m going to order those two other trade anthologies as well and there’s my 4 books for April, 1 book/month is my goal and I’m on pace for that.

All in all I had a pretty good day and Anne’s got 3 days off, I’ve got tomorrow and 4 hours Saturday morning then Sunday. So that’s not too bad and it’s supposed to warm up tomorrow and even warmer on the weekend.

e, Jim
