Washout Wednesday |
|
I left after Anne had left making sure everything was off and headed outside to catch a bus to Clairview station. So as soon as I get outside and talk the walkway there goes the friggin bus whizzing past me. Bastards. I thought, well, maybe another one would come by in 10 minutes or so. I waited but nothing seemed to be coming on the horizon so I decided to walk down figuring, what the heck, I have at least 40 minutes. I walked down to the train braving the wind and a train was there waiting for me. With my luck by the time I got to the ramp after clearing the concourse, the bastard would have left. After taking the escalator, I thought, great now I’ll be there like in 10 minutes. I put my tunes on feeling good with a big $5 bucks in my pocket and waited. Several tunes later the train was underway. A wait later at the maintenance yard and back underway again. Finally at Carona and I’d be up at the corner of Jasper and 106th and there’s a familiar face at the corner ready to cross Darrel, looking at me funny. “What are you doing down here during the day?” “My Doctor’s appointment. What time is it?” 1:50pm.”Shit I’m late. Thanks.” I headed to the building upstairs and the waiting room was packed. Holy shit. I booked in with intake and apparently there’s at least an hour wait. “Can I rebook?” I’ve got the 25th next Wednesday.
That was a bit of a relief so I decided I’d walk up Jasper to AHC and at least get that started. It was overcast and breezy but I worked up a good workout walking there. I got in and the place was packed as well. I pulled a number, serving 37/15. Not bad. I found a seat and at beside some fellow and began chatting with him about computers and all sorts of things. Something to do to pass the time, he said he’s 50 years old and he’s in my age group. My number was called next and I brought out my forms but the teller said I needed to fill out the form, which I didn’t have. Normally it’s just automatic and she agreed. So she photocopied everything for me and attached the form to the photocopies and all I need do is to fill that out and bring it back. We certainly qualify for subsidy. The teller said the best time to do all of this is early in the morning at about 9am because there’s virtually nobody around. So Anne’s going to fill them out for us and in the morning I’m going down bright and early. Essentially, today was a washout. Worst time of the day to go anywhere in the City is in the afternoon. I headed home thinking Anne is going to hit the roof when she hears how I lucked out today.
the lrt has been in the news today and it seems that they are bypassing stations because the train is just to over crowded. I haven’t experienced this yet but if tomorrow night after work the train doesn’t pick me up then I’m going to have to start taking the bus home. That will mean I wont get home now until after 10pm. And the City recently increased walk on bus fare up to $2.50 a ride/ticket and yet at the same time they are trying to encourage people to take public transit. So now, the City wants to increase the monthly bus pass from an affordable $60/month up to $75/month. Yup they want to encourage people ti use public transportation. Now because of high gas prices and the lrt being over crowded they want to reduce service. I don’t know what times of day they plan on doing this. Maybe this is why it took me 40 minutes to get downtown this afternoon. The only bus heading out to Clairview late night is the #2 bus and that’s a long ride. I’d be getting home at about 11pm if this is the case. The good news a year down he road, the City has ordered 26 new cars and these cars a $5 million a hit. Yet the City wants to encourage public transportation. Yeesh
So that was washout Wednesday. I got up at 7am with all the intentions of going downtown to AHC. I even thought, hey, why not get a breakfast sandwich and a large size coffee amd have my sandwich at TIm's scuttle downstairs catch the train back up to Central Station and get my health care subsidy claim in, maybe even pick up Rollback while I'm there but as soon as I got in the office I saw a blanket of snow out there and blizzard like conditions. The only thing I wanted to do was to go back to bed and crawl under the covers and sleep. But Anne kept me up almost all morning tossing and turning.
I did manage to work on more of S last night as I'm revamping the opening story line. I tppk most of the parts from the original idea from the opening. Where it broke down for me was in the middle. That's where the story line got silly.
On my plate for today? Not much. I'm going into work at my regular time and get my pay cheaque. I'm very interested in seeing what my bank report will be like since we've been doing mostly semies for the last 3 weeks with a bit of Taps tossed in for good measure. I usually get a few taps/night. Then it's home and more work on S.
That's all for now
