Getting nowhere.. fast |
|
And this has been the theme for today. I've been working at trying to get a photo of me uploaded in a block with no success,
I also watched the Detroit/Flames game as they Red Wings beat out the Flames 2-1 but it took almost 1.5 overtime periods to do it. I should have been pulling for Calgary. Next year if the Oilers are not in the playoffs I'll be pulling for Calgary. Sad to see a Canadian team lose out to a league top heavy with American teams As long as a Canadian team is in the finale. I hope Vancouver beats out Dallas Monday night. I'd love to see an East West all Canadian finale. If Ottawa keeps playing and Vancouver keeps getting stronger, it's a distinct possibility.
I also began work on F earlier. It's slow going but reading on the screen is a lot easier then reading from the printed page. Rant alert.
Sunday was Earth Day and thousands of people gathered all over the world, even here in Edmonton. The big deal today was global warming and climate change. Though the people hosting the event did give me pause for concern. As a writer I wonder how much paper that is wasted on paper reading material.
I'm now stuck with sort of a dilemma. Now I;m all in favor of saving trees. Yet consider how much paper is used in creating a book? Consider further how much paper is used in creating a mass market paperback?
Some may say this is recycled paper but the paper has to originate somewhere. Lets say I sell a novel to one of the big three science fiction publishers and at the mid point of my career I end up selling 50,000 copies. Consider how many trees that is. Consider how many trees a commercial author uses per book.
I know of some Science fiction authors that are very prolific and publish more then one book/year. Many of these SF authors and other gene writers will say they are environmentalists and that we ought to stop producing C02 emissions. Yet these very same but
well meaning people are hypocrits of the highest order. The point fingers at anybody not towing their tune but when they use a tree that absorbs the very CO2 emissions they are crying fowl against, well that to me is being a hypocrit.
Now I'm not a scientist or a climatetologist but I can make an opinion/ Personally I don't know if mankind is responsible for global warming or not. Nor do I believe that CO2 emissions caused by man or other sources are responsible for global warming. I remain a skeptic. I don;t have a problem with paper books but for God sake if your going to be an environmentalist and tow the Green line then at least be honest about it. If your so gung ho about how global warming is man's fault then put all your books as ebooks and save a tree. Put your money where your mouth is and quit being so God damn hypocritical. You all ought to be ashamed of yourselves.
