Oh well |

I went into work without incident. Except of course people that have to sit across from me 2 booths up. I got my breakfast sandwich and into work. I was the first one in the office but by 9:55am people started coming around. JT brought the donuts in and we ended up doing CCSD. My first sale was a $100 large tap and things went from good to mediocre for the first half. The second have a bit better and I ended up with $490. Not bad. Nothing stellar but I was really getting tired and drained by 1pm. Most of us just wanted the hell out of there. I was so wiped out I didn’t even go to Audrey’s for books. I went strait home. Anne called me on the train as I approached Belvedere station. She was on her break and walked me off the bus at the set of lights here. I got home and ended up going to bed having a bit of a nap. Anne came home about 6:30pm and made me a hot hamburger and mash potato and she went out to do her thing. I did some more writing and I hope I’ll have up to scene #70/80 done sometime today.
The problem I’m facing right now is my computer and I don’t have a back up. I either caught a virus or the battery on my motherboard is going. My W/98 system will without warning shut down on me. I have to do an improper shut down and start again. So in the morning I’m going over to Fs and get a diagnostic quote and see if they can do anything for me. When I shut the computer down and start again I have to go through set up then scan disk etc. Many times it takes me through set up several times before scandisk. They’ll figure things out at Fs. I’ve had a lot of use out of this computer over the years. So, I’ve made a decision that I’m going to save up for a Macbook Pro. I’m getting out of the PC game altogether. I’m getting the entry level Macbook Pro but this won’t be until Christmas when I will use my accrued vacation pay and some savings.
I think what I’d like to do today is go over to Fs and get some blank disks and get a back up copy of F onto disk and maybe even bring the disk over to Staples and get a hard copy. As it stands now, F is 218 single spaced pages, double space that would be 436 pages. Should this computer die on me overnight at least I have a hard copy to work with until I can get myself a stable system. In the meantime, I’m going to run this system into the ground. I don’t want to lose what I have here either. I’d like to find some way where I can convert W/98 files into Mac files. I don’t know how this can be done, if at all. File conversion from PC to Mac is common. So I guess it should be ok to do.
What's interesting with all of this is I was initially running W/me from 2001-2004. This is when my vision went bad. This was when I was in the Royal Alex hospital recovering from Diebeties. July 2004. It was later in August that I got the W/me blue screen of death. My supervisor Mark at work managed to save some of my W/me files and installed W/98. I used that computer for a year and then August 2005 I bought the Compaq. I used that right up during February 2006 when I noticed my vision becoming bad again. The computer crashed on me October 2006. Just over a year of use. It was my fault mostly. So back to W/98. Then I get my vision cleared up and no sooner a month into that and now more computer troubles. Hopefully no more eye troubles.
So far no interesting news on the Oiler front, the reason why players don’t want to play here is because of their wives. The reason why Glen Sather was so good at signing players here in the 80’s was because Glen would become involved with their families of the players and most of the players he signed with were single. It’s the wives that screw everything up. Kevin Lowe is doing everything he can to get some marquee players here. The thing is the players are on the road most of the time anyway so why would player’s wives have anything to do with it? I think that’s a pretty flimsy excuse. A lot of the veteran big name players go to teams not because of the money but because they want to play for a Stanley Cup contender. Case in point: Michael Nylander. The Oilers offered him 2.5 million more then the Capitals but he couldn’t take it. In this case it was his wife getting in the way. She has this perception that Edmonton is a-frozen tundra. A Siberian Gulag of some kind. Sure it gets cold here but the wives don’t have to live here. So I think it’s a bit of both. I can’t blame people for not wanting to live here. It takes guts to stick it out here. All I know is if Lowe can’t sign any “A” list players here before the new season then, chances of the Oilers making the 07/08 playoffs will be slim to none.
Ok, if I go off line because of my computer woes, not to worry. I will still be able to blog. That’s why we have Internet cafés. It won’t be everyday either. Maybe 2-3 times a week at best but I’ll warn everyone in the mean time. It won’t be a long exile. For a $100 bucks I can always get the other computer up and running. I think that’s what my wife wants me to do anyway. I might end up doing that anyway as a back up when this one goes. Besides, I miss Google earth. The only thing is, the Compaq is so bloody slow.
That’s all for now.
