For Tuesday

finally I got a hold of Markus and I’m back. Feels good. Anne and I left out of here at about 3:45pm. She had to make a pit stop to Superstore for pop and I met her at Clairview station and in we went. After she got off at her stop I headed up to Audrey’s and bought “The years Best SF 12” and headed to work. It was a slow night sales wise. My first sale was a 35 tap and it wasn’t until the 2nd half that I scored big in the last hour with x4-$40 sales and I ended up 3rd top total $395 and a $ten dollar credit card. I got a couple of calls from Anne to round out my evening. We got out about 8:45pm and Anne kept me phone company to Carona Station and the call dropped on the upper concourse just as I headed down to the escalator. I rode in with Archie to Belvedere station, one of the new guys. Nice enough fellow and I talked with Anne again from Belvedere home. I watched Raw tonight. On a scale from 1-10, I’d rate Raw a 5. It was pretty lame. I don’t really mind doing the work I do. I get to read in between calls. Nobody said anything to me about not being there on Saturday. JT and I set this up last Friday night. The only down side too all this was I won’t get my vacation pay in until next week. JT put it in for me on Robs desk so it can go in Friday am and be ready for next Thursday. I thought he sends in the pay Monday.

So now I have to wait nearly 2 weeks to get it. I’ll get it on the 27th. So, I’m going to pay the Geeks Thursday. I should get $25 on Thursday. COH: $100. So out of that I can pay the Geeks the $45 and get the computer back. I’m going to though get the recovered data stored onto a Cd. I’ll ask them how to install the data onto my hard drive and that’s almost the next best thing to getting my W98 system restored. If all goes well, I might have $400. If all goes well, I might have my external hard drive and the Ram.

The thing I miss most about my W98 system is F. All my Word documents are on that computer.

Lately we’ve been doing nothing but ticket campaigns on the job. It’s a little discouraging because of the bonuses. My bank is dropping as well. I want to put the extra hours in but it’s really hard on me. Then there are days like today where I’m not the most popular person in the room. Not like that’s important to me. Now I know how Anne feels when because nobody at her job talks to her. Then there’s the job itself. I’m getting really tired of ticket campaigns and calling strait Edmonton. After BB, we’re doing another Hockey game, “Legends“. Oh we get a break from hockey with “Magic and Miracles.” That should take us up until Christmas. Then after that yet another hockey game with Old Timer hockey. Theses are the same people we called for baseball. After that we got the circus in Winnipeg and then baseball again and on and on it goes. The only break we get from ticket campaigns is on Saturdays. We get to call charities there. This is managements call and I feel like I’m on a sinking ship.

That’s when I recalled the simpler days of working security for Whacken Hut. I had a great position with them at the Pacific Rim Mall location. 1994.

What I liked about the job was the location and what I had to do. The “Mall” itself wasn’t very big, maybe half the size of this apartment building. You can Google earth it to get an idea of what I mean. The “Mall” had two floors and catered mostly to the Chinese community. The Marco Polo restaurant was upstairs there was the bank of Hong Kong, a couple of Karaoke and video shops and a bakery and that was it. There were three entrances, the back the front and a side/front entrance for the ATM. The whole building took all of five minutes to cover inside and out. I mostly stuck to the inside. Most of the job was to patrol twice an hour and sit at this little desk on wheels and all I did from there was to read books and write in my diary. The job required me to wear a uniform into work. I didn’t mind that too much. The only thing I didn’t like about the job was the hours from 7-2am. A supervisor drove me home and I’d get in about 2:45am. Why didn’t I like the job? They only gave me 3 days/week and those days were on weekends because I didn’t have a guards license.

I left the security guard job because it was conflicting with my unemployment at the time. I had the other security guard job just before I got this job back in 1999. That position wasn’t anything like WH. There was a lot of on my feet and a lot of hassle from Supervisors. I kept the job and got laid off because of the contract that expired. Apparently.

This brings us back to last week thinking about security again. I struck up a conversation with the guard at the Help desk and he said his employer is always looking for guards. “How much do you get paid upstairs?” “$10/hour.”

He said he gets paid $12. Now I don’t know what he does to get paid $12/hour. Is there a lot of patrolling? Is it’s say 3 patrols a night and sit on your butt the rest of the shift for 8 hours? That’s a lot better then working my ass off for $10 and the effort going into strait sales. If I could get a job like WH but with more hours, then great. Also the guard said that he’s on for 4 days and off for 3. The ideal position would be from 10-6am 4days on/3 off, 3 patrols/night I’d love it. Think of all the books I could read and how much writing I could get in! I was going to talk to the guard this evening but I forgot. However tomorrow after work, I’m going to get more details. If it’s everything like I think/hope it to be, then I might consider very heavily to take the position.

That’s all for now

e. Jim
