I'm a baby boomer sci-fi
geek with a laptop.

PC trouble resolved.

I tried getting a couple of hours sleep but the cats were out roaming around on the bed again. I got maybe 4 hours and I’ll sleep tonight. I called the Geeks this morning and they said my computer wasn’t entirely ready yet but it will be later tonight but I’m working. They said they’ll bring it in before noon tomorrow. The problem was the Nvidea graphics card. The fan had been worn out. So any defective piece of equipment within the case of the computer would prevent Windows from launching. So they removed the card. It’s not going to affect my performance anyway. So now I’ve got 2 computers that are working fine. Somewhere in my rats nest I have a d link router Anne and I used to use to share 2 computers within the house. I networked them up and they were running like that for awhile until the blue screen of death. Anne wasn’t using the other computer anyway. Now what would help is if I could use one mouse between two different OS’s. Future shop has what’s called a KV switch for keyboards, mouse, modems that sort of thing. But would it work between OS’s, that’s my problem. I’m sure there’s a solution for it.

So now I can get at F. The next thing for my computer is Ram. I’m going to Ram up my Xp machine over the summer to the max. This way I’ll be able to use that printer scanner I bought earlier in June only this time hook it up to my Xp machine instead of the W98. The W98 was to slow for the printer to operate no matter how much Ram (even if I could find that type) I installed. Then comes the external drive. But the printer is necessary so this way I can get out a hard copy of F.

SF Signal today wanted to know why I read/watch SF. I'm the 13th comment. Forgot to sign my name. I don’t watch a lot of SF because the last great SF movie was (imho) the last Star Wars movie “Revenge of the Sith.” 2005. Star Wars is the Doctor Zhivago of this generation read more,

So my wife has the night off. I’m in at work on a Wednesday evening. That’s ok. JT gave us 2 hours of charity taps and 2 hours of ticket campaigns. I like the ticket campaigns because it’s more relaxed. Rob likes us to have $180 a line hour on charity campaigns. Yeah right. I did $300 the first half and $115 on the 2nd half.

So tomorrow the Geeks are brining my PC home. Good stuff. I miss working on F but I also need to do some high volume printing and I might still burn the novel onto disk and let Staples print off a copy for me. Right now the skeleton of the story is more or less there. There are a few rough spots that need fixing before I give the skeleton some skin and close and bring it to life and put cloths on it. But I won’t set up my W98 computer just yet. It’s not a big job.

That’s all for now
