Friday and Saturday |
|
Formattig troubles. This is not a dream. having trouble sleeping. That’s not being diabetic that causes it. Chalk it all up to being over tired and too much sleep from last night This covers Friday night and all day Saturday. As busy as it was..
Mo brought his little laptop with him but he couldn’t get a wifi port going but he said he’ll do that download for me tonight and I should bring a USB cable along and my player. The music I want shouldn’t take anything more then 512Mb and I cleared off my 512Mb Sd card. If he’s in tomorrow and he downloaded it for me, then great. We’ll see.
I left out of here just about 4pm yesterday. It was very warm out there. When I got in Rob even had the bank report posted. Good stuff. I brought in last week, $1250 but not enough to earn a bank bonus. Some of the staff were telling me that Rob doesn’t want people pulling in extra hours because they burn out. I understand that. But I think according to one of the staff there telling me (last night) that if you make line hour for the morning then you can work afternoon. I haven’t heard anything about that for the evening for working afternoons. I don’t know, I think it’s time for me to move on. I’m really getting tired of the job I have there and I’d love a security guard job. I think on Monday, I’ll ask Amad about the security guard job. Anne doesn’t mind me working graveyard duty. I don’t mind it as long as there’s not a lot of patrolling involved. I like that 4 days on and 3 off type thing.
Anne’s working in the afternoon today because they canceled her shift on Wednesday. Buggers. So, because I can’t sleep, I’m going to blog this before hand and save me some time for the morning. I’ll get up at 8am instead. That will get me 5 hours of sleep.
After work today,, I’m hauling my Compaq over to Fs. Hopefully they have the ram there but I’m going to call first to see if they do. I don’t want to have to end up hauling my computer over in the heat only to find out they don’t have the Ram for my machine. They’re going to have to test it first anyway regardless. The other thing is, I’m going to see how much performance difference going beyond the extra 512 Ram and add another 512 Ram card will be. I know there will be a huge difference going from the base 256 I have now to an extra 512. To 768. But how much more difference in performance will there be with x2 512 cards in there? I imagine the performance will be significant. I have 4 Ram slots. When I get the extra Ram I’ll have 3 slots filled. 256k, 512k, 512K. Over 1 and a half gig. Later on I’ll max the Ram to full capacity. Most likely by the end of the year. Then I might get the KVM switch and the router next and with any luck at all, I should have $100 bucks left. The router is $45, Ram $145, KVM switch $70.That’s $260 out of my $365. I think I’ll get that “Year's Best Science Fiction Twenty-Fourth Annual Collection” by Gardner Dozois. Audrey’s is selling it at $21 bucks. There are some stellar names in this collection. Besides SF signal is reading it so I might as well too.
Oh, about work yesterday. I ended up getting 2 credit cards. We ended up doing Edmonton Comedy fest. It’s a good campaign. I don’t know how many cities are on this tour but we could do all of them and as long as we have taps for them. I’d be happy with that, I did a lot of verifying in our section and I got credit cards for some of the other staff in our tap shooter section. More later.
JT drove me up Jasper and let me off by my stop and I waved a “thanks” and walked up the near empty Saturday streets listening to my Clash tunes in the hot Sun. Destination City Center Mall/Edmonton Center. More specifically Coles. I looked around and saw a number of books that interested me. They had Vernor Ving’s “Rainbows end”. ( but I had no knowledge that this was a series or not.) It’s a stand alone. They also had a a copy of Timothy Zhan’s “The Icarus Hunt” about 2 oversized anthologies, even though they didn’t have Gardner Dozois’s anthology I wanted. They had others there and a few other stand alones I’m interested in. I settled on Zhan’s book instead, I walked down to Jasper
Evening: almost 12 hours later and running on about 3 hours sleep over the last 24 hours. I shut everything off here just before 9pm and headed out the door to catch my bus. There were a couple of Walmart carts left on the Capital place grounds. I’d note them for later. I got into the office at 9:30am and read a bit having my coffee and got the shift underway. Dave Sullivan sat beside me for awhile but couldn’t stay. I think he stayed for about an hour. Mo was good to his word and was able to download about 15 songs from the Buzzcocks. I saw them listed on his little computer. So we tried to download them onto my Lexmark media card but he couldn’t do it because he needed the Mp3 player driver. The media card is in my Mp3 player. But he’s going to email them to me as attachments but I gave him my Outlook email and even though I haven’t got that set up yet, I’m sure they are sitting there ready to come to my Outlook. When I get these to PC’s linked together. I called Anne about 10:30am as a wake up call but she was at Tim’s getting her morning cinnamon roll and coffee before work. I had a good total by morning I ended up with about $200 bucks. The calls were coming in slow. I got a call from Anne while she was on her break as we were booking off early. I asked JT if he could give me a life up Jasper Ave and drop me off at 101st st and Jasper Ave. He said at first he couldn’t but then as I was about ready to leave he said he could. I ended up with I think $425, which is line hour.
I thought I’d have enough of a chance to have a bit of a snooze but that came hard,
The Pizza was good except Anne forgot to order extra sauce. I prefer Pizza 73 because they have Italian sausage. That cam around 7:30pm. I worked on the computer for awhile and watched my show “Meet the Collectors.” Red Robinson but it was a repeat. From about 10-11pm I had a bit of a nap. Then the news. More attempts at Blogging this. About 12:30am Anne and I watched an incredible hour long thunder and lightning storm. So I shut the computer off and enjoyed the storm. Then After a brief moment of trying to Blog this Anne panicked and said those dark clouds looked like they might be funnel clouds. So I got my cooler and Anne and I sat out there for about thirty minutes and she asked me if I wanted to stay home again for Monday. Sure. That way I can run over to Compusmart (if they have them) and pick it up then or maybe even Sunday and have all of Monday off. I want to see if my Outlook express works and the rest of my W98 computer so I can see if Mo was able to email those songs for me.
Anyway, that was my day Sat. Anne didn’t seem to mind me buying books especially since it’s seldom I ever get a chance to go out and have any money. So I think tomorrow while Anne’s out I’ll run over to Compusmart and on my way back get the two books at Coles: Vernor Ving’s “Rainbows end” and maybe an Anthology and maybe get the router s well. When at Fs the tech guy Jim at the counter said he wouldn’t charge me the $25 fee to show me how to install the Ram. In that case, The router is $54, Ram for x2 512 = $120 and the KVM switch. $75. Bought separately.
That’s all for now.
e. Jim
it’s after midnight, Saturday night/Sunday morning. To continue from yesterday. I walked out of Edmonton Center in the warm Sun. I think kit must have been about +30 and all I knew was, I needed to pee. So I went to Central station and caught a Clairview train. Fifteen minutes latter I was coming down the ramp at Clairview hoping to catch that #183 before it pulled away. I ran and it wouldn’t stop for me. Bastard. So I had a long hot sweaty walk along the tarmac of the Superstore parking lot. I hoped one of those Walmart shopping carts would be there so I could take it inside for later when I would need to bring my computer over to Fs for later but they were all picked up. I was grateful for being inside at last. The first thing I did was to take every thing off take a toilet seat and pee. Relief. I turned on the computers and climbed into the shower for a refreshing lukewarm soaking. I needed to wash the sweat away and it felt good. I wanted to check on the Timothy Vaughn book I had just bought and it’s not part of a series. Neither is Vinge’s “Rainbows end.” so much for that. Anne called saying not to use the phone because the account had expired. So we got the skinny on the account. I had given Anne $25 from before. So we went down to Fs about 5pm Saturday afternoon. I figured I’d bring enough for the KMV switch and the router. The Ram I can get latter. Anne go the card for me so we’re good to go for the cell phone for August. She went on her way home and I went to the back where they have all the goodie sand asked for the KMV switch but they said it’s out of stock. Matter of fact, they are a discontinued item. I was extremely disappointed. They had the router but what’s the pointing getting that if I can’t hook up the other system. The Fs clerk said that Staples often has KVM switches in stock. I should try them. So I left empty handed. When I came into the apartment I was hungry hot and sweaty. I had another shower. It was +31 out there. Anne ordered us Pizza Hut as they promised they’d credit us a free large Pizza because the last time they got our order wrong. Anne asked for a delivery. Staples was closed. I looked on their website Staples Canada and they wanted $199 for their KMV switches. Way too much money. Best Buy Canada didn’t have them. I tried memory express. They don’t stock them. I tried Compusmart. Pay dirt. They’ve got them for $75. They call them Port Authority Cables To Go Port Authority 2 KVM Switch - KVM switch - 4 ports - 1 local user. So in the morning around 11am I’ll give them a call and if they are in stock I’ll run over to their downtown store in the Grant McEwen College area. It’s a number #2 bus ride from Clairview station. I’d say about 40 minutes there and forty minutes back. With luck I’ll be back in time for brunch.|
