Short but nice

I had a good weekend. Except for that blow up Anne and I had. I watched Summer slam. It was really good. On a scale of 1-10, I’d give it an 8. I got myself a book yesterday and Summer slam tonight, I had a nice weekend. I even did some work on my up coming novel project “Green Alumni.” Or from here on in, GA. F is on a brief hiatus until I can get the W98 computer fixed up again. In the meantime, I’m going to work on GA.

While on the job Saturday we called into BC. One of my calls flashed up “Coquitlam” (my home town) somebody on Como Lake road no less, around I think the 700 block and I had a nice chat with the customer. She said “Snoopy’s” is still there. She said, “That’s our corner store.” Amazing. I used to go there to get Marvel comic books in the 60’s before my back operation and even in the early 70’s before we moved out of the old nationhood. When we called the customer it was about 1pm Edmonton time and she added “Typical Vancouver day, raining.” Snoopy’s was there when JFK was killed and I recall after that encounter with Linda Cummings in 1964 going there after school to look at kites. I used to get my marbles from there in the early 1960’s. We used to buy Halloween firecrackers there as well. I was always broke as a kid. In the 60’s when dad gave us kids an allowance, I’d always get $2 every two weeks. But that would buy me 16 comic books at .12 cents each. Now a kid wanting 16 comic books today, would cost after gst/pst at least $5 a book. Or about $80. $2 (every two weeks translated into $80/$160 month in comic book terms. A bottle of pop was a dime not a buck in a can. It was a quarter to get into the movies not $12 bucks! A loaf of bread was a quarter. We’d get our milk dropped off in the morning and leave the empties with the cash overnight outside. You can’t do that today. Of course as a kid or anyone for that matter growing up in the 1960’s in BC, sales tax and the gst was un heard of. As a kid I didn’t read a lot of comic books but most of my money went towards candy. When dad could give an allowance to us. Hard to believe that after 45 years Snoopy’s is still going strong by the same Chinese family that still runs the store. Most likely the store will be around a lot longer then I will.

The thing is I have fragments of memories from those years. I recall the day we moved out of Howie Ave and moved into our Regan Ave. Home.

Perhaps I had 2 hours sleep before Anne inadvertently woke me and before the cat trying to get my attention. Together put me in a hard foul mood for the cbi thing. I gradually softened having my morning cereal and seeing as how it was going on 7:45 I decided to read for about 45 mi minutes. I like doing that in the morning, which is why I’m not looking forward to putting the extra hours in this week, But I can’t next week because it being a short week and all due to the holiday weekend and lodge night the same week. I’ll be lucky if I get 21 hours in next week. When I’m in for the afternoon shift, I like to get up at 9am read for an hour and maybe do some diary work and then some writing before I get ready around 11:45am, shower clean up have some lunch and out there on the bus by 12:30pm. I like getting in by 1pm so I can read for a bit after I get my dialer scoped out for the afternoon. But tonight I‘m going to check to see if my insulin pen is still in the fridge tonight and set it aside for tomorrow because I’m determined to go in for 32.5 hours in this week

I left my rechargeable batteries in overnight but I had the urge to take them out of the outlet and they still are not charged up yet. It takes 8 hours to charge these hybrid batteries for my digital camera.

Still no word from Markus since I emailed him when I went on this computer Saturday. Sure he’s got other things to do besides catering to me over the weekend but I would love to have that new theme up and running and somehow get a pic of me emailed over to him.

That’s all for now,

e. Jim
