My day so far |
|
Anne went up to the Safeway McDonalds where they have the McGrttles but was waiting for the bus and timed the order just right to catch it coming back. But she forgot the cell phone. Oh well I enjoyed breakfast,
She went off to Superstore and I ran out to catch my bus and a wake up wait on the train. I felt alright, no worse for ware for someone that has had about 4 hours sleep. I got into work and fixed myself a coffee and had Edgar working with me. The first shift went fast. I got a couple of credit cards. One for $25 and one for $20 for a not bad total of $630. We got out about 15 min early and I headed over to Audrey’s. Did it rain earlier? Not much there. I did find Elizabeth Bear’s Undertow and I made sure it was a stand alone novel. Anne called me as I was book browsing. I paid less then $10 for the novel. That’s a pretty good deal for a new story. Staff at Audrey’s said it was raining earlier. Anyways, we have more unstable weather out there. I love it. I went to Corona Station and I said I’ll take the next train, if it’s a Clairview train fine if it’s a university train, then I’ll be going to Chapters books. By this time I was exhausted and when I get tired it really reads in my face. Makes me look dopey. So I waited for a train. So far with my recent book acquisition I’m sitting on pace for my 1 book/week. I had another week to go. I was warm in my overdressed gene coat and even underground I was perspiring. I could have bought another book at Audrey’s. There’s about 4 more titles I could pick up. Man was I getting sleepy and thirsty. The reason why the Bear book was so cheap was because of the high dollar this week but I don’t think that really had anything to do with it today. The book might have been sitting there for a week or even more. Finally the University bus came and I got on it to the UofA.
I had about a ten minute wait but I talked with Anne as she was out and about doing her shopping on the other side of town from me. Then the bus came along and a five minute wait on the bus. Anne talked me to Chapters and inside. I was surprised they had so many titles. After I let her go to shop I realized my choices were rather limited. Lots of broken series. Lots of stuff I don’t like to read like military fiction. Some stuff from older authors. I mean I don’t mind Larry Niven but I didn’t want to get into a broken series. There were lots of book ones of trilogy’s and that’s fine and well. I narrowed it down to about two books. One of John Varley’s Red Thunder. But upon reading the blurb, I was turned off by the Americana aspect of the book. It seemed to me like it was all Gung Ho USA and “aren’t we (USA) great”/pat self on the back type of Tom Clancyish thing. Seemed rather juvenile to me, I’m sure it isn’t but I’m glad I put it aside. I picked up a 2nd Charles Stross book, “Iron Sunrise.” I ended up paying for that and went outside being audio abused by this bagpipe busker. Sitting in close proximity to other bus patrons waiting for any bus away to the University/lrt. Anne called again and talked me to the University transit area. A brief wait for the train and I got a seat by myself and got another call from Anne once out of the tunnel. I called again waiting for and on my #183 bus for home and at her request terminated the call. I’d be there in 10 minutes anyway.
I put my stuff away and had a nap for about 40 minutes. I could have slept longer but Anne left the bedroom window open and I got besieged by cats running al lover me. Not good for sleeping. It was 6:15pm when I woke almost an hour ago.
Anne’s making me some supper and I’ll be taking my insulin. I felt light headed a bit out there after work. My bsl reading is 6.6. That’s pretty good. It’s really nice out there. We’ve got a lot of active cloud cover making conditions really pleasant despite the wind. I was going to take a picture but at this time of day the picture would be too dark and my camera batteries need to be charged up, so I’ll go out there and take one tomorrow. I love active cloud cover conditioned kind of days.
Anyway that’s all for now
