Talking about yesterday and stories |
|
I had a pretty good unexpected day off Tuesday, Dreading going in for tomorrow but that’s ok. Anne’s going in on a rare 4:30pm shift with me. I don’t think she’s been to work with me since maybe July sometime.
Also this afternoon I we hard on F doing 4 scenes. Even though the material was there I still had to rewrite it. The writing is a huge improvement over te original and I’m going to go back into it again for more.
The Oiler’s are winning a lot of their pre season games and that’s a good sign as they cut their training camp roster. There are some good players I hope they manage to keep.
Another 6/49 winner from Northern Alberta today. 8.8 million and she’s a single young gal too. Good for her. I’ll win it all right, when I’m about 85 years old and maybe on my death bed. Story of my life. She won it on a quick pick as well no less!
Everyone is raving about “Halo 3”, the hottest gaming sequel on the planet for the Xbox. As a sci-fi fan I should give this one a thumbs up but I’m not really into the first person shooters. I like first person but not in that genre. Reminds me too much of Doom. I like the FRPG’s like Oblivion and D&D style of games.
On Coast tonight, Astronomy & Physics Professor Lawrence M. Krause will discuss theoretical physics including hidden realities and invisible universes. I like stuff like this. Coast occasionally has some pretty good shows. And for their other news, Models should help astronomers identify the properties of exoplanets discovered in the future. There is also an article about using ethanol to power cars etc. instead of relying on Middle East oil. The problem in a nutshell is that ethanol is not cost effective. The trick is there is apparently only enough oil to last the world (including our own Alberta Tar sands) for about 80 years. After that unless we find an alternative oil source, were toast.
Yesterday Keith Graham provided an inventory of unsold stories where he lists 14 of them. Some are flash pieces. I think flash is harder to write because you’ve got to convey a lot in such a short time frame. Working by memory, here’s a list of my unsold stories.
Twenty Four hours Starship time-5k
High Risk Assessment-5k
Rift-4k
The Signpost-5k
Dark intruder-10k
Lift-off-3k
Asteroid run-1,500k
Changes-5k
All hands battle stations! -5k
Outpost 27-2k
Earth tones 9accepted but hasn’t seen print)-5k
Lucy-lost in cyberspace-5k
The shoot out (western)-2k
Critical even-6k
Blue array-2k
Riptide (unfinished)
The curse of Anthony’s Star
Chinook of the Dragon
The Big step
I’m sure there are a few more in there as well from my Writers of the Future submissions. These stories are on my crashed w98 system. I’ve got Dark intruder and HRA on hardcopy. The difference between Keith and I being is that he actually sends his stories out. Mine just languish in various stages of development. Although I did sell “Crosshairs” and “Zombies of sleep” this year. In About me there is a link that will take you to ZoS. Also over the last several years. Practice novels so far:
Zyphrium Rising
Gems at oriels bridge
Meltdown
Rouge behavior
Ace Valorous (still might use him)
Underworld (my version of historical science fiction)
Foliage-100k (my best effort yet)
Green Alumni-100k (coming up next)
Some of the stories listed at the bottom might be lost forever because they are on 3.5 floppies and I think reformatted. There were some good efforts on those stories as well.
Anyway that’s all for now
e. Jim
