Ranting and complaining-again

going into work Tuesday because I need the hours and of course my stat pay. I want to call Yo video to see if this is my sisters video store in Victoria. There’s one other way of contacting my family if Jeff is still driving cab part time but there are a lot of cab companies in Victoria. The other thing that will make searching for my family easier is my brother Mike and his wife used to own a consignment store. I don’t know the name of the store but back in December 2000 when I was there last as my mother was dying in the hospital that weekend Mike and Doris were just opening up the store. I think they had the business before but they might have just found another location. The other business my family has is “Great Canadian Video” but I don’t even know if that’s associated with them. My sister’s husband or partner or whatever they’re called now-a-days might have the store. For all I know my family might even be here in Edmonton for all I know. But I’m not that hard to find if they ever wanted to find me. Just Google Jim Shannon and there I am. Even if they get to my old Blogger account they can see my photo and make the connection. I’m not that difficult to find. I wonder if even my family are in the book. Mike Shannon? Most likely under Doris’s name. I’m going to try the video store first and then just look for directory assistance. I believe I’ll hit pay dirt with this one. So what do I say after 7 years? Like I said I’m not hard to find. The onus is on them to come up with an excuse/reason. I can see that if life just got in the way type thing. So that’s my goal tonight when I go in. My family needs to know where I am.

I’m going to have to get myself a better job because in the winter I’m not going to want to have to tread through the ice and snow of the Super store parking lot at 10pm at night. The City really screwed this transit system schedule as of October first. This is the worst transit system in the country. When your riding ETS weekdays from Labor Day-June 30th rush hour is from 6am until midnight. Pain in the ass. They could have 4 cars on the trains and I’d still be lucky if I got a seat. The problem is the City should have stopped at the Health Sciences Center last February and went underground to West Edmonton Mall. But no, they’ve got to go to Century Park, extreme South side. “Oh, the lrt should be at West Edmonton Mall in a decade.” They should have built the West end leg right after the university when that went up in 1992. West Edmonton mall would have been completed by now. That means I’ll be (If I’m still alive) 65 years old to be able to “enjoy” it.

Yeesh. I took my train into work Tuesday afternoon no problem. When I got there the up escalator was still dismantled in need of repair. They had the stairs off to the side behind the stairs. That should have been my first clue. So I took the elevator up instead of my stairs. All this and Anne had hid my belt to my genes from yesterdays washing load. This things been broken for 2 weeks now. I got into work and I tried calling Yo video but I got no answer. At 3pm in the afternoon BC time? Maybe it’s an extended long weekend or something. I’ll try again tomorrow. Will put JT, myself, Edgar and BB onto the Police Association. (mainly because that Mounty was murdered on the weekend in Hay Lake.) That went over well, actually. I ended up pulling in $575 sharing the top total with Edgar. Actually it was a fun time. We were watching one of these action adventure movies JT liked to watch. Sometimes the calls came in really slow. Of course everything has it’s price. Will shut us down 8:50pm and that meant I had over a half hour wait for my train. So I decided to wait and read in the office for a bit. I figured maybe just maybe last week was a fluke. Sure enough the lower concourse was packed. The only time the City puts extra cars on the tracks is when there’s an event. The rest of the time, it’s just two cars/train. Sure enough 9:10pm came around. Nothing. This wasn’t looking good. The other train going to the University station came by and of course almost empty going there. That’s the train I should have caught. There was Diane looking like a Ghoul just begging to have somebody to talk with. I should have caught the University train. Sure enough the at 9:25pm the train comes along and it’s packed. Full of Clairview university kids coming home. I barely got a seat on the train. People were standing in the isles almost resting their elbows on my head. Back packs jabbing at my neck. I was not a happy camper. Not to many people were. So finally at Clairview Station the #182 bus I think was there at 9:41pm. I could have caught it because it did go by our place and a #11 pulled in but I didn’t know if the #11 would wait around for 20 minutes or if this was the #183 just leaving. I walked home. The wind was howling at 30 knots, one hand trying to keep my pants from falling down and Anne calls. All this as I’m trying to hold my bag as well. I was one pissed off dude.

So Anne says we’re having rotisserie chicken. Ok. She gets home with a bunch of cans and bottles added to her own. And we have my GST cheque in. The only good thing about today. I get half of this so I can maybe (if I can get them ordered) I can place a book order today (maybe) I hope. So Anne is pop bottle can crunching away and cooking rotisserie chicken grill whining, which causes the smoke detector to go off. This is a big time pain in the ass. I miss most of my news, She forgot to prepare the grill.

Finally after the dust settled we’re back to normal. I like to watch the news while I‘m having my dinner but that didn’t work out well.

The good news is I’m going to call Audrey’s books and ask them if they can order 5 books for me; The 2 from the trilogy I’m getting into. J’s book and something by a new author Catherine Asaro from her “Triad” series. So lets see if Audrey’s can order them. That’s going to be the first order of business.

We had a stressful time of things here about 11pm but we’re okay now. I’ve got some cash happening for today as Anne will give me that $60 and I’ll go into Audrey’s and put the order in. Once I know they can order the books then I’ll go in and order them, most likely for Thursday. The sad part is I couldn’t raise my family but I got a bunch of phone numbers of “Mike and Jeff” I’ll be calling these numbers over the next couple of days.

Anyway that’s all for now

e. Jim

Back when Asaro was selling to the small presses, I was actually in a by mail critique group with her, and I critiqued quite a few of her stories...

Hope they can order my book for you.
