Not a bad day today |
|
I began preliminary work on S early this morning. The Prologue part of the story. I have a theme and a plan to work from hashing it out along the way. The early part of S is tough going. I’m still working on a bit of F each day. I don’t care if I have to rewrote it 20 times to get it right it feeling right,
This weekend is Speculation. I’m going to call HH comics and find out how much tickets are. I don’t want to stay for the whole thing. I just want to pop in and say hi. I mean why not? I’ve got some cash and plenty of notice it’s not like I’m booked out the whole weekend. Anne and I are getting our haircuts after work Saturday. Other then this, that’s about all I’ve got planned. But I wanted to get Peter Watts book Blind sight. He might have some there but most likely they will be in hard cover format. I might have to wait until next years Con but i might go in after all. Hard to say.
Speaking about traveling and all there’s been a lot of talk lately about making a high speed bullet train like they have in Japan from here to Calgary. It would have a stop in Red deer and off to Calgary. The project would cost something like 5 Billion to complete and would take about 85 minutes to get from here to Calgary. Or about an hour and a half. When we used to go down to Calgary for our Amway meetings in the late 1990’s it would take us 3 hours to get there by car. Most of the time there would be just the 3 of us for the monthly meetings. We’d leave out of here by about 3pm and get there by 7pm for the 7:30 meeting. Then we’d have a Night Owl after that. Usually at Tim Horton’s or something. That was one thing I liked about Amway was the traveling. Our monthly meetings would cost $2 and it would cost us $10 each for gas there and back in Ellen’s car. Plus I’d bring about $10 with me for Tim’s or depending where we’d be. A bullet train would certainly have come in handy but if it’s going to cost say something like $100 bucks for a one way trip, forget about it. If it’s say $50 bucks there and back, then sure. I’d take it. What’s in Calgary for me? They have better science fiction and gaming conventions then we do. They have Sentry Box. Which is one of the greatest gaming stores in Western Canada. So I could see myself going to Calgary about 4 times/year. But by the time this proposed bullet train is completed I’d be in my 60’s.
Anyway, Anne is coming in with me on the late shift and I’m going to call Audrey’s and see if they can order those 4 books for me. I’ve got them on my list. If they can then I’ll go in and out the deposit on them tomorrow. They most likely won’t be in until November as it is. I’m behind on my books for this month and there isn’t a lot to chose from what with everything being broken series that sort of thing. Science fiction and fantasy doesn’t cater to the impulsive book buyer anymore. Just way too many broken series and I’m a fussy reader as it is.
Anyway that’s all for now
