Decided to order J's book today anyway, among others |
|
I usually buy a couple of books other then in the mass market paperback format/year. Sorry for the flip-flop J. I'll put the request in for later today.
Despite Anne riding in to work with me it was nice going in. Other then the bad mood coming from my wife, which I didn’t need. Despite that I got in and found the room half empty. Maybe they are working along the back wall. Sure enough, about a dozen of them were apparently working on a political survey. We get them from time to time. This was on behalf of the Liberal party ready to go to the polls in Ontario. They elected a liberal Premier, I learned later. Apparently they were working until 6:30pm. I was kind of hoping for a night off so I could watch the Oiler’s at Minnesota. I asked Rob if there’s going to be an evening shift because of the survey. I should have gone home thinking “I thought it was going to go all night.” (the next day that is) but we needed the money. So Will putt’s us on CRF until 6:30pm.Then over to magic. I had a chat with another Rob that used to work with Xl way back in the day. Anyway, Rob gave me the lowdown on pizza as he said he worked with them before coming over here. You Can’t have anything to drink on your dialer unless it’s sealed. You Can’t eat anything. Oh and they monitor your calls as you have 90 seconds to complete a call from when the customer makes an order until the order is finalized. It’s really talk intensive nothing like where I’m working now. At work I can pause and un-pause my dialer and go to the bathroom whenever I want. I can have a sandwich and a coffee, make a cell phone call. I can read at my dialer chat with my neighbor. Pizza? Forget it. Anyway, I did surprisingly well on Magic and I ended up with a couple of $20 credit cards for a total amount of $515. We even got out a bit earlier 8:35pm and I hustled it over to Corona station to make the early connection. I was even able to get a seat by myself as well on the train. Not only that but I also caught my bus in time although I pulled the bell late. It was a nice mild day out there. I left the office on a negative note though as Greg had the Oiler/Wild game on and the Oiler’s were losing 2-0.
Anne made me a nice lunch and the NHL results. The Oiler’s lost 2-0. Also, Calgary hadn’t yet won a game this season. Friday, the Oiler’s are home hosting Vancouver so there’s going to be extra cars on the train coming home. Then there’s an Oiler/Vancouver game Saturday night. Two back to back Oiler games. Good stuff.
Audrey’s said they could order J’s recent book “The Opium for the people.” If I’m not mistaken I think the phrase is Opiate meaning how “TV is like Opiate for the masses.” It’s a play on words and a decent enough title. But according to Audrey’s because the book is a paid on demand (POD) type book it could be expensive. I buy 1-2 hard cover books/year. I don’t mind paying $20-30 for it. Let it be the only “hard cover”/price range book I’ll buy. So after a second thought despite the price of the book I’ll order it. I also asked about Julie E. Czerneda’s “Trade pact wars” trilogy but book #2 is back order and might take a couple of months to get. I should place the order anyway. I also ordered the Triad series by Catherine Asaro. I’ll go ahead with the Trade pact wars books. By the time I even complete this book the other ones should be in and I can move over to Joe Haldeman’s Camouflage like I intended right after “1000 Words.”
As of right now I’m going to blog this and head on over to do some more work on F and maybe a bit more on S as well.
Anyway, that’s all for now.
