Yesterday, Pizza and gambling

I locked everything up here yesterday and ran out to my approaching bus. On the bus heading to corona station I realized at the last moment that I forgot my reading glasses and my book. Rats. I got in sat in my old seat beside Garry. Uggh. MM tonight. I wasn’t doing half bad either. I also got a $45 credit card. I placed my book order talking to Trevor. He said I didn’t need to worry about the 50% down on the books so I ordered J’s book the 2 Catherine Asaro books and a Julie E. Czerneda book as well. That’s 4 books. I felt happy about that. I had a slow start at $190 by the break and a better 2nd half with a $45 credit card. I got my cheque ($197) not much but I’ll take it. The calls were coming in really slow as well. Will let us out early which was nice and I bolted out of there leaving my pop cans behind. I called Anne. Working. She called me as I was going underground and later as I was waiting for my #11. On the bus waiting I suggested we order Pizza. Good idea. I asked the driver if he wouldn’t mind waiting for my wife getting off the train. He did and I could see her waddling off the ramp. God love her. Sure enough there was Diane right on her tail. Anne’s out cashing my cheque and getting the Pizza so that should be here in about 40 minutes or less.

Anne brought the Pizza home just in time for the news. I ended up eating that whole Pizza as Anne saved her half for later. I also pointed her to the beauty of Youtube and now I’ve got her hooked.

That was last night

well that was a good sleep. I got up about 5:40am to do the cbi thing and went back to bed but had some energy and decided to read for awhile. Then back to bed after a few pages around 6:30am and I slept from there. I remember my wife getting up needing to go out and I woke up around 12:30pm. So I got my 8 hours sleep. Actually all week I had it pretty good sleep wise. This s unusual because being diabetic it’s hard to have a decent nights sleep because you have this ‘get up 5:30-7:30am to do the cbi thing’. The good thing about it is I like to spend an hour in there and get some reading done after the cbi thing. This morning I felt tired and I needed the sleep.

Alright. I’m glad I don’t have to pay that 50% down on book orders. I hope that’s policy and not a personal call. I appreciate the gesture but I don’t mind paying the 50% down. Chapters wants it all up front right away. I think Trevor said books in Canada. POD and from other places yes, 50% down. I got away with it for J’s book.

Speaking about J, Allan Erwine, He’s going to be busy attending this years Mile High Con in Denver. They’ve got what J calls autograph alley he bloged about. Autograph alley as J described it is a length of author tables and he’s been invited to be one of the authors at the Con. Good stuff. I wouldn’t mind going down to see him and the rest of the Convention. It’s a 3 hour drive from here to Calgary but when they get the bullet train going it’s an hour and a half. Then about the same to the US boarder. Three hours. From here to Denver is like going from here to Vancouver. I can get to Vancouver on a ‘West Jet’. If I leave in the morning I can get there before noon. I can spend the afternoon there and take a flight out after supper and be back before 8pm.

Speaking of flights and all, the company I work for-Xl- has this contest going on. It’s basically a credit card contest awarding the winner of the most credit cards a trip to Las Vegas for the weekend which includes $500US spending money and hotel stay. This contest is for 2 in the family room and two business. The draw is to be made at the staff party. Anne and I enjoyed the last one even though the entertainment was really long. The thing about this contest is Rob is the chaperone and you need a passport to get to the US. Understandable because of their preoccupation with terrorism. The thing is this contest was so short noticed not everyone has a passport. I don’t have one. I don’t know how long it take at this end to get one. I haven’t flown anywhere since 2000. Besides I’d hate to leave my wife behind. I don’t know when the contest winners set sail. The thing to is we have a lot of transient people here that come and go. I can count 5 steady night room people that are here all the time. Then there’s the steady afternoon people. There’s about 6 there. I don’t know who just shows up for the morning shift. I’d say there are about 12 steady people between morning/evening shifts. Personally I hope I don’t get selected. I’d have to delay everything until I get my passport. I mean I think I can get into the US but half the people there where I work have either been in jail or have criminal records. I mean they’re nice enough people and all. The thing is if I do get selected and go, the $500 will be all used up in gambling. I don’t gamble except to play the odd 6/49 and scratch n’ win tickets. I don’t even play Pro line. I used to play but none of my picks ever win. I think I won once on Pro line when it first came out in 1990.

So today I’m going to go into Audrey’s and see what they’ve got for me. After work and then head for home. Tonight it’s Smackdown and the Oiler’s have those two back to back games with Vancouver. I’d like to see them win both games but I’d settle for a split.

Anyway, that’s all for now.

e. Jim
