Pure Speculation and F and stuff |
|
My hopes were riding high for Saturday nights Oiler game. The Oil kept the Canucks off the scoreboard for 99% of the first period. Then the penalties is what did them in. I thought Rolly played mediocre at best. The team played pretty good except that Vancouver over the last 7-8 games have had the Oiler’s number. Add that and the Canucks great goaltending and the Sundin brothers was a bit to much for the Oiler’s to take. They’ll take a flight out of Vancouver and they play Phoenix Thursday and Calgary next Saturday night. Also the Esk’s last this afternoon. Even the oil Kings lost. Everybody lost today except the Golden Bears. It wasn’t a very good day for Edmonton sports teams.
I did a bit of looking around about last years Pure Speculation convention and organizers said it was a great success. A weekend pass is $20 and that’s not bad. They run a few D&D games and have a costume shindig after it’s all over. It’s not as big as V Con or anything like that. I think they get maybe 200-500 people over the weekend. They need more events. They probably have their costume dance during the evening. What makes a good convention? I’ve been to enough non SF conventions to get an idea. Firstly you need three days. Friday night, Saturday and a wrap up for Sunday. The big ticket item should be a banquet and the costume dance.
I worked on the 3 scenes yesterday that were causing me some trouble and they’re done. Right now just completed scene #38 and almost at the halfway part of the book. It’s going well. This is a major rewrite and it’s tiring stuff. I can write 3-5 rough draft scenes with no problem but the rewrite, the scenes need to be read and then rewritten where things get a bit murky. I think scene #37 is a bit on the murky side. I’ll get back to it after the Oiler game.
On Global news I was hoping to get a bit about Pure Speculation but they didn’t mention it. Then I went to the other City news at 11 CFRN and sure enough they did. It looked pretty good actually. I saw the table with Peter Watt’s there and tables and games being played. It looks like they had a pretty good turnout and I’m going to go to the next one. I’m sorry I missed it. I’m glad I decided to turn into CFRN. They are more prone to be more City minded then Global. Pure Speculation wraps up at 6pm today. I first heard about pure Speculation last year a couple of months too late. I stumbled upon it while visiting one of the gaming websites here in the City. You can even check out some commercials for Pure Speculation on Youtube. You know what to do.
Speaking about F the first 20 scenes compose of just over 25,000 words. I’m betting the middle will contain about 45,000 words and the last section about 25,000 words. My first novel submission guidelines wants a submission to be 100k. The first order of business is to make sure the book flows. Then I can get creative in the subsequent drafts.
Anyway, that’s all for now.
