We went to bed at our usual 3 am time. I had the last of that wine to help me sleep and listening to Coast for an hour. Great show last night with John Lear and others but I needed sleep. With the wine in my system working I woke up and it was 8am. I didn’t want to sleep that late. I think from now on I’m going to have my alarm set for 5:45am from now on. I like getting up to do the cbi thing and spend an hour reading. I did some more reading this morning and went back to bed around 8:45am and slept until noon. I got 7 hours and I’m not tired.
Anne’s going out to see the Doctor this afternoon and since we only have one bus pass this month, I’m staying home but I’m going to call in. I could get to work on my own but Anne’s got to worry about making lunch and supper and juggling all that in with me being a diabetic will compromise her schedule. I’ll make up for it by putting in an afternoon. I haven’t done that in awhile. Since the end of May. I’m a firm believer that the more you do there increases the fatigue factor a lot. One shift where I work is enough for anyone. I don’t see how people can get along on 2 shifts/day but of course many of those 2 shift/day people don’t work Saturdays. We got people there at the office that put in 9 hours/day and they’re feeling the heat as well from Rob. I like my evening shift and I’m going to like having the day off even more.
Alright, last night despite the James Bond movie, I managed to get a couple of scenes done. Right now nothing’s broken scene wise in the novel Everything fits right up to now. I can identify a few WTF moments in the story from scene #50 and beyond but essentially most of it is intact. It just needs to be tightened up a bit more and that’s what this rewrite is al about.
I worked on 4 scenes this afternoon and I’m going to go up to scene #55/80. I’m closing in on the ending part of the story with 6 scenes to go until I get there and that’s got another 20 scenes in it. Right now at scene #54 I’m at 71,483 words on the story. I’ve got room for 28,517 words. Even if the next 6 scenes get me to about 22,000 words in the last half of the book, I’ll be right on pace to have the novel fall in around 100k. I’ve got 25,920 words in the first 20 scenes. The format is 20/40/20. I think I have way to much dialogue in my scenes and I’m going to learn how to trim that back in the next rewrite. In the middle so far I’ve got 45,557 words. 25/45/25 leaves me with 90k and 10k remaining. With another 6 scenes remaining in the middle that 25,000 words will be reduced down to something like 20k. I might end up with something like 25/55/20 and that’s 100k. Stay tuned.
Tonight I’m working on the book and planning for the next one. Sanctuary. I’ve got the structure all laid out and the points of interest along the way. I have a vague idea of the characters but I have a more solid idea of the overall theme. I haven’t worked on it for awhile so I think I’d like to continue on with some of that tonight. I’m going to watch my wrestling at 10pm tonight.
That’s all for now,
e. Jim
