Saturday morning |

I went to see Rob but he was out of his office and most likely had gone home for the day. I took this up with Wil and we’re going to go over this, later this morning. Oh it’s $15 and not $20. Still, it’s $15. I brought my $20 allowance and some change along with me but upon getting into the office I realized, I had left my coffee at home. Also, I had a really slow start doing AES. I got a couple of update calls from Anne we were playing every credit card we’d get 1 minute off. We got about 12 minutes and Wil, usually shuts us down at 8:15pm anyway. I think we got out about 8:10pm. So after that I went over to Audrey’s books. It was a real nice evening. Winds were calm and temperature was something like -1C. That’s where we’re about currently now anyway and we’re supposed to get up to around +8C by this afternoon, which is really odd for this time of year. This winter isn’t turning out to be anything like from last winter where we had snow on the ground by mid October.
Trevor my special order book guy was there and he said there wasn’t much available because this week they’ve had a tour group of kids and they came in and scooped up a lot of their science fiction and fantasy. Their shelves were pretty thin. I was looking for one book anyway and I found it: David Weber’s “War of honor.” Now I haven’t read any of his Honor Harrington books nor have I read any military type fiction before, so I thought I’d give this a try. Eventually. It’s a 929 pager with a glossary yet and a couple of sample chapters of another novel. I’ve been looking at Weber’s novels before and when Charles and I got together for that coffee last month he was saying that’s what he’s been reading lately. So I thought I’d give it a try. Even more so since I’m reading Joe Haldeman’s Camouflage. I’m about 60% of the way through and I’m enjoying it. Anyway, Trevor and I went over some of the special orders I wanted to put in and I ordered an anthology and the first 3 of the Honor Harrington novels. At the Canadian parity prices. Our dollar now is worth $1.07US. Audrey’s has adjusted their book pricing to reflect this. So now for the first time in over 30 years we’re getting books for the same price as Americans. I paid $7.99US for the book. Ordinarily this book would cost me $11.99CND. That $4 went and bought me my Boston crème donut and decafe at Tim’s.
That coffee tasted so good. I ate my donut and read a bit more from ‘Camouflage’ there in a quiet Friday evening at Tim’s. I took the rest of the coffee with me and waited downstairs for my Clairview train enjoying the hot coffee. I felt happy and I had a decent night as well. I had an uneventful train ride home and got in the apartment just after 9pm and fired up the computer and put the oven on for the potatoes wrapped in tin foil for part of our supper.
We’ve been having the Canadian Finales Rodeo at Rexall place over the past couple of days. It’s a big event drawing about 15,000 fans/night. It’s going on until Sunday. I love this time of year especially when the weather is cooperating.
Anne called in the train on her way home and said their train had been stalled just outside of Rexall place there. Apparently some guy jumped the tracks and didn’t make it. There was blood all over the train tracks. No fatality or anything but they caught the guy by Rexall transit right next door. They had a delay there of about 15 minutes before they could get underway. So Anne did a bit of shopping at Superstore and I had 2 slices of left over pizza from the other day and I ate that while watching a bit of Smackdown until Anne came home and put the steaks on the barbie. She didn’t start those until about 11:30pm. But I flipped between the news and wrestling. Oil sitting at $96 and change. For almost mid November yet. Anne and I watched Smackdowns main event with the Undertaker and “The Great kali.” Unbelievable! Near the end kali had Taker in the head lock with those massive hands. Once the headlocks locked in a move nobody has broken before. Until last night. Taker did it and gave Kali his 2nd choke slam. Unbelievable. What a main event. The steak was superb. Anne really outdid herself with that one. I watched ECW and enjoyed that. Then it was time for bed. I had a pretty good sleep there as well. I think I woke up when Anne came in around 4am but I rested for the most part in and out of sleep. So I thought I’d get up and put some coffee on and that’s where I’ve been here for the last hour.
So, today, I’m going into work and put my 4 hours in. I’m going to take Monday off. Not to spite Rob or anything but only because we’re not getting paid for Remembrance day. That’s not his call. When I come this afternoon, I might have a bit of a nap and then get some writing done before the Oiler Flames game. Like the Oilers they’re struggling as well and are 8th place. The Oilers will be in hostile territory tonight kids. But I believe they’ll win this one in regulation. It’ll be a late start around 8:00pm.
I might pop in for an update later on tonight after I get some writing in on F but that’s going to be about all for today.
Anyway, that’s all for now
e. Jim
