I went in and met Rob coming of the elevator with his Nephew and others. He never said anything to me. So I got a dialer and sat down all I said to Will was I tried calling in about 4 times and nobody answered my call. Ok. That was it. We all did Magic last night. I started off slow but I ended up doing okay by the 2nd half. Also, I called Anne and asked her about CW. Greg first mentioned it to me Friday night as I was leaving the office. It’s working from home. It’s a charitable campaign that Rob first did back in the old office. Greg’s running it now and he said he has nothing but taps. We get 25% of everything banked. We could do it even 2 hours/day each. She talked to Greg and even likes the idea. She’s quite excited about it. So Greg’s going to set up a line from Shaw and we can call Coast to Coast. We felt really excited about this. I ended up with $300 and a $25 credit card. If we can make $100 bucks a week, that’s gravy even between both of us. So I left out of the office feeling good. Rob came in with me on the train and got off at Rexall. When I got home Anne made her homemade perogees and German sausages. Really good. We watched the news and had a good evening. Now I get a couple of hours off here to relax.
Earlier I was doing some research about using sector-targeting. Google Adsense HTML code. The only thing I don’t know is where to place this s-t
In the HTML. Of the code I sent Markus. So I’m considering sending him the s-t code and implement this code into the code he received.
Also I found something called Google page ranking. I entered my URL into the GPR field and the results said I have a GPR of 1 however this does not show up on the graphic I installed on under the Rss feeds block which is kinds of odd. I need to check this out in greater detail.
Also, Holly Lisle mentioned today in her newsletter something very interesting about readers make good writers. She said out of all the genre she reads and she reads everything Romance, mysteries, thrillers horror all of it. But what struck me the most is that she says she reads more non fiction then fiction because this is the fuel for her fiction. I found this extremely interesting. I’ve also heard write what you know. My main experiences in life have been centered around the occult. I started my occult journey back in 1980. I also know a lot about wargaming. Wargaming plays a central role in my life. So does music and wrestling. Now a story about the occult and wargaming might not sound like exciting topics to write about unto themselves but why not include these elements in my SF writing? Of course I do. In an E Jim Shannon story, you’ll find some of these topics in my stories. My fiction contains the occult and wargaming provides me with strategy and tactic elements.
Last night I got into looking at some vintage keyboard sites and some interesting names like Rheem and Teisco. Today Rheem is better known for their air conditioners. I’d love to get my hands on one of these vintage keyboards. Especially the Gibson 101. What got me into looking at vintage keyboards was watching a 1980 YouTube video of Elvis Costello and the keyboard player Austin Delone. That and enjoying some white wine. The video showed a close up of his rig and I’ve never seen this kind before but man, what a beauty. I love his sound on that keyboard.
Anyway we got to bed about 3am as usual and I passed out waking up about 6:45am. I got up to do the cbi thing and fired up the computer too look at some more from the Rheem. Ace tones and Teisco’s are Japanese made rigs. I like the Rheem Kee piano bass as well. I went back to bed at about 7:35am. I had trouble sleeping and at some later point in the morning I got a headache. It’s a bit of a headache but most of it is gone but I got up late-again.
I think Anne could be in late today so she’ll come in with me-maybe. I’m onto my first coffee here this afternoon. I don’t know how this CW job is going to go but even if I can put 2 hours/day into it, that wouldn’t be too bad. I could get up at 11am and work until 1pm. What I like about it is that it’s work from home. After that I can do what I want with my time. I mean 25% of what’s bank is pretty good. Anne wants to work after when she comes home. We may have trouble fighting over CW time. We might be able to even alternate. Maybe one day she does it, the next day I’ll do it, that type of thing, I could even do some calling when I get into work at Xl from 4:30pm-5pm. Anne’s mostly looking at calling from those times she gets home early from her job. Last night she got home at 7:30 and she only got 3 hours in. but mostly I’d be on the phone from 11-1pm and Anne will be on the phone on her days off and when her job sends her home for shortage of work.
Probably on Friday, I’m letting Will know in advance that I’ll be booking next Friday off to attend Strathcona lodge. The nice thing about visiting other lodges is the festive board is free. Woo Who, hehehe.
So for today, it’s at the job and I’ll be keeping an eye on the Oiler/Canucks hockey game. The boys in the bus are again on the road. They play the Wild on Thursday. Two back to back games. Yikes. Not good.
One thing I’ve been wanting to get back into is playing more Advanced Squad Leader. The greatest board game of all time. In my humble but accurate opinion. The last time I played an ASL scenario would have been about 1996, Maybe. That’s the time when the Internet first emerged and in 1995 Adventure gaming supplies closed down. Happy Harbor comics and games was supposed to open their south side location at the now defunct Warp one. A good meeting place to play ASL game is at the UofA. I’d like to get to play on the weekends at least once/week but I need to find where all the ASL players meet. When CW starts bringing me in some cash, I’ll be able to afford the games and get caught up in some of the modules I missed. I missed but have been aware of: The ASL new Rule book edition. I’ve also missed Doomed battalions, For Kind and country, and Armies of Oblivion. plus a few historical modals. The above modules completes my are the last 3 ASL modules from the core module group I need to complete my collection. So I’m behind by three. The Rule book is $100 and each of the core modules listed above are about the same, so that’s a hefty $400 bucks right there. If I can bank even $500/week on CW that’ll still get me $125/week. And they’re all taps?
I think what I’d like to do if I’m going to work 2 jobs is take Saturdays off at Xl by putting in an extra couple of days. Saturday mornings at say 10am I can work CW for a couple of hours. I don’t know how CW is going to go but I hope it’s not like how were double dipping at Xl.
Anyway, that’s all for now
e. Jim
