Wednesday and a Tuesday recap

To recap from Tuesday: I got up on the late side of things at 1pm and had to rush a bit. I went into work on my own and got into the office. I ended up doing CCSD and was able to call Chris about Strathcona lodge for Friday night. We’re good to go. I had a pretty good night. I got a $125 sale and a $50 credit card. I was at $420 by break but the rest of the night was slow. Greg and I out the hockey game on and the Oilers were doing great holding the lead 3-1, then tied by the time I got out of the office the game was tied at 3. Anne had said she’s got $90 bucks for me for Reward points for December and another $50 she still hasn’t received. So I get $140 reward point bucks for City Centre mall. Anne’s Xmas present for me. I rode to Stadium with Rob D and got a few calls from Anne. I managed to talk to Charles as well for a bit on the way home. It was a good night for a Tuesday. I even got a bit of reading done at work so I had a pretty good night. When I got home the Oilers and Vancouver were just wrapping up OT and heading into a shootout. The Oilers won 5-4. Finally Penner scored. I did some internet stuff and my maintenance for totals and credit cards. My goal this year is to get $9k in credit cards. $4k more then usual. Cottage pie for supper and the evening news.

After that I got to read a bit more from Joe Haldeman’s and I finished the book this morning. It took me a record time to read. October 31st-November 21st. 22 days. This was my first ever Joe Haldeman book. I really enjoyed this book.

Review summery: This book held mystery from the get go. The characters were interesting and engaging in a perfect setting.

Brief synopsis: A 2 professionals discover an artifact at the bottom of the pacific ocean that brings a changeling and it’s opponent to it’s finale destination.

4 thumbs up of 5

My Review:

Pros: intriguing setting. The story captures the readers interest from the beginning. Great story telling. There was some padding in the middle of the book as usual but that’s with a lot of fiction.

Cons: Not enough description of the opponent. There was also too much back story as well

Bottom line: I really enjoyed this novel. The characters were well fleshed out. Some of the story elements are a bit unbelievable especially near the end.

Would I recommend this novel? Yes. Especially if you want a quick read.

Onto some other things. Oil now has reached $98/barrel. Amazing. It climbed to it’s highest point yet by $3+ barrel. I figure by the end of this month Oil will have reached $100+ and will continue to climb until something gives.

So now I’m onto “The new Space Opera.” This should take me until the end of the year to complete. My first anthology I’ve read since the original Writers of the Future. I used to read them quite a lot over the years.

Anyway, that’s all for now

e. Jim
