The last post for 2007. Yikes! my website guide posted an old pic of me. I didn;t like that pic to begin with and I have another better one coming up soon. He spelled author wrong. Kind of made me look foolish. More then I already am half the time. I had to take it down but at least I know how to get the pic up. Thanks for the effort Markus
Another cold day in Edmonton. The other night in going through some Fliker photos of New Westminster I stumbled upon a sad photo of the Windsor Hotel. Or what was left of it. Dated May9th 2007. It was left in ruins met its fate by the wrecking ball. An old building unable to be preserved. Also, in looking at some of the online photos from the New Westminster photo archive I came across under ‘Views from the Fraser:” 2 panoramic shots of 1972 New Westminster. You can see the familiar Trapp building there etc. The Trapp building is where the old Army & Navy building used to be. I also saw a 1968 photo of the Fraser river in New Westminster with ice on the river. This rarely happens if at all any more. More evidence of (natural) global warming. But not because of the Oil and gas industry or anthropogenic AGW. The problem I think is we have too many people on the planet. Most science fiction writers that have been around long enough will tell you the way out of this over population mess. We need to move these people into space as in a Space Habitat-(habitat). Like in Arthur C Clarks “Rendezvous with Rama.” Or Larry Niven.
The space habitat as envisioned by Gerard K O’neil would hold anywhere from 10,000 people to 10,000,000. Of course none of this would happen in my lifetime and by the time anything like the above could be developed wont be for a long time if at all.
But the sad news is of course the Windsor Hotel in New Westminster was demolished. I liked the 1972 shots of New Westminster and that was pretty cool. The thing about Panoramic views or at least this one is the distortion affect. The detail wasn’t bad unfortunately no close up shots of anything I could use.
I thought I might entertain you folks today with my Top Ten predictions for 2008:
#1-Oil will reach $100/barrel
#2-Asteroid to hit Mars misses and will hit earth instead.
#3-There will be a next big thing (like the Internet)
#4-A major G8 leader will be assassinated (Al Qaeda?)
#5-Martial Law in US Bush still President in ‘08. Sorry guys.
#6-A Canadian NHL team will win the Stanley Cup 07-2008 season.
#7-The Amero buck
#8-JFK disclosure released through FOIA, important documents hint at conspiracy.
#9-Hollywood writers strike continues until labor day 2008.
#10-Canadian dollar surpasses US dollar-again
Anne made us pizza for dinner and watching the news I thought I’d better see if the Oilers are playing tonight. Sure enough I caught the game in progress. Actually 2nd period intermission. Rats. Good news is the game was tied at 2. The Oilers got sloppy in the 3rd period. Ethan Morrow with a few minutes left in the game took a sloppy penalty. Columbus scored and then scored into an open net. That ended on a sour note. However, Raw was excellent this evening. On a scale from a 1-10 I’d rate it a 10. The match between Shawn Michael’s and Mr. Kennedy was awesome. The rest of Raw was pretty good too. There was back stage drama. A pretty good Diva’s match and then the main event Triple H and Rick Flair. Regal comes in to have the match disqualified. Good show tonight. It would have been a perfect evening if the Oilers would have won.
Right now I’m enjoying a D-café coffee. In the afternoon I’m calling up Mike and Doris to wish them a Happy New Year. That should take an hour. But tonight we’re going to ring in the New Year with a bottle of wine and a platter of snacks and watch our little edition of the First night’s fireworks show. Then we go to bed about 3am our usual time.
Some New Years resolutions. I’m going to continue to buy a book/week. I’m going to find time to practice on the piano once a day. I’m going to read a from a novel/book everyday. I’m going to write some fiction every day. I’m going to test my bsl at least once/day. I’m going to resolve to change my employment status for a better job as soon as possible.
In closing off this Blog post for this year, I’d like to thank everyone for reading my blog. I’d like to thank you for visiting every day. I hope I’ve given you something to think about and maybe even have given you the odd “I didn’t know that.” moment or two as well, and made you laugh at my silly antics and spelling typos. I’d like to thank my regular readers for offering me hope and encouragement during my darkest hours when I didn’t know if I’d be able to see again. I’d like to thank those of you that had traded links with me and have found my website and blog of some value. I’d like to thank the friends I’ve met online. We might not always agree on issues but you guys are great. I’d also like to thank all of you that have left comments guided me to writers markets and left encouraging notes about my writing. To all of you that have stopped by read and laughed and all the rest, I thank you. Just wait till you see what happens next.
Anyway, that’s all for now
