another uneventful ride going into work. It was'nt that cold out there. I finished that Tony Daniel story: “Valley of the Gardens.” Not bad but most of this writing is way over my head. I got dialer #2 but the thing wouldn’t work I was almost ready to walk out and take the night off seeing as how we had a full house. First time I’ve seen that on a Friday night in this office. But to be fair most of the extras were floaters and new people. Moe got me another dialer on the other side with the East Indian people. Nice fellas. I had a slow night. We all did doing COP. I ended up with $90 and a $20 credit card. Anne called and said something about “Swiss Chalet.” I’m not to crazy about it. Super Stores rotisserie chicken is just as good. But she didn’t want to cook. She encouraged me to take Saturday off. I was undecided. We did Canadian Burn Foundation next. Small semis. I got another $95 out of that. Not a great night but I didn’t care. I gave my total and told Moe not to expect me in for Saturday. I’m still not feeling well. He said no problem. I felt good going across the parking lot with the East Indian kids. Nice guys. I like them.
I met Trevor at the admin station at Audrey’s and he went to the order desk with me. My “Forgotten Realms” book was only $20 and some change. I got $4 something back. I ordered the “Moonshae” trilogy (not in omnibus format) and “The Writers of the Future #23”. My 4 books for next month. But since I’m not going in for tomorrow I’m going to get up around 1pm and head on into City Center mall and bring those reward points with me. I’ll look around and maybe get a couple of books and or some office supplies and some lunch and head for home.
I caught my train as it was coming into Corona feeling good and a seat by myself. Anne had called and I said how I’m taking Saturday off. She was happy about that and said she‘s ordering Swiss Chalet anyway. I hadn’t had a Saturday off since I was ill and a Saturday off since October before that even. I watched a bit of Smackdown, the news and some ECW. Other then going down to the mall Saturday not much is going on. There’s no hockey thanks to the All Star break.
Tonight on Coast George has "Talk fest" in Austin Texas with Alex Jones. Tomorrow night: Michael D'Antonio -Space Race- Sunday night: Robert Collins -Secret Tech.- I don’t really care for Alex Jones and his conspiracy theories about a North American union etc. But Saturday nights show and Sunday nights show looks interesting. Also in Coast news: An asteroid that's likely as big as several football fields will fly past Earth next week. Interesting.
Since I have 2 days off, I’m going to be hard at work on H. not to worry I’m still going to post in here, play some piano. I’ve got the 2nd half of the Star Wars “Imperial March” to try and learn as well. I’ve got lots to do.
When I was over at Audrey’s talking to the clerk there about books and showing her the anthology I was reading, she agreed with my observation that authors write short stories differently then novels. By that I mean the short story sounds like it’s from a whole different person then the novel writer. They write short stories and novels on different levels. It’s more like short stories are almost a way to show off. Like authors up the ante for short stories. I’ve often wondered why authors they do this. Is it because the short story is more challenging and is aimed at showcasing their writing expertise? I’ve read some short stories and compared to the novels these authors write and it’s like two different people. Aleister Reynolds short story writing sounds like nothing from his novels. It’s like two different authors. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me?
I went over to SF Signal and low and behold they included some Google adds on their blog. I don’t blame them for doing this. I ended up monetizing my site last year as well. I’m not out to make a million bucks or anything. Matter of fact, since I had my Google Ad up there, I have yet to track any of my earnings. Maybe in the Spring I might get a cheque from Google for $100 bucks or something. Yeah, I won't hold my breath waiting. I also want to get an Amazon Ad up there as well. With SF Signal monetizing their site it just makes it look a little less friendly and more corporate. I try to make my site as user friendly as possible. I’ve got my picture up there on my site (such as it is) hairy arms and all.
