The long weekend begins |
|
That was a nice 4 hours of sleep. I was in bed by 1am and listening to George’s “Open lines.” The Cursed line. That didn’t do anything for me but the other stuff in between was fun. One guy from Vancouver claimed he was a space alien. After the break another caller called in saying that the space alien call firmly believed he thinks he is a space alien or is one based upon his voice convictions etc. Cute. I think I passed out shortly before the 2 am news.
Anne’s having some bronchial condition and we don’t think it’s a reoccurring cold or anything like that. It’s an asthmatic condition brought about by the time of year and the from extreme changes in the weather. This time last weekend it was -31C/-43C wind chill out there and I stayed home now it's +1C/8C wind chill.
In the news last night the reporter talked about a "scathing" report from back East about the Alberta tar sands oil. THis project is the most dangerous project around to the invironment, vauge upon vaugeness. They had to include of course a native spiritual laeader in there giving his 2 cents worth. As soon as I saw the name, my Spider sense told me this was nonsense: “The Environmental Defense.” This was the same group in bed with Greenpeace and the WWF that championed the cause to have DDT banned in the 1970’s in 3rd world countries. DDT was and still is one of the most effective ways to combat malaria. WHO warned that by banning the use of DDT would cause the deaths of a lot of people. People in 3rd world countries used it to spray their houses but thanks to the “The Environmental Defense.” agency, Greenpeace and WWF were able to convince the UN to ban DDT world wide. Their claim was that DDT use affects birds and other wildlife. Well maybe (There's no proof of this of course.) if your using DDT in agriculture. As a result millions of people died for nothing because they didn't have access to DDT to spray individual houses. All thanks to “The Environmental Defense.” Now these same nut cases want to stick their noses into our Tar sands oil, which if they are successful would devastate our economy here. Fortunately we have a Premier that is essentially saying Fuck off! Now if it was the Liberals or more especially the NDP they’d kiss these guy’s (The Environmental Defense.) ass all over the place.
Overnight I went and charged my camera batteries. Since we’ve got nice weather this morning -1C/-5C wind chill I’m going to take a few pictures. I want to post more pictures other then cat photo’s. I know cats are cute but gees, I have enough cat’s already. That’s another thing I’m going to do this spring/summer is take more shots of things going on around the City. I’d love to get a bike and travel around town one afternoon.
So today I’m off to work. I’ll get myself a Tim’s breakfast sandwich. Put my 4 hours in and maybe (I hope) get a few more credit cards in. I don’t know when it was but one of the kids from India said Gary in one week got 70 credit card sales. That’s $140 on his cheque. I’m lucky if I can get 15-20 in a good week. Then after work, my “long weekend” begins. Anne gets 3 days off.
My wife wants to take out enough for a 50” HD TV because the one we’re using now is “falling apart.” I’ve been wanting to call Shaw and find out what we need to run an HD TV. I’m sure it’s not just a plug and play device like a regular TV.
You can see the top portion of our TV where it’s losing picture quality. We’ve been putting up with this for about 3 years now and I’m getting tired of it. It really ruins the viewing experience. My other TV though, the one I bought in 1990 is still working just fine. It’s a 25” and we’ve been thinking about moving the old TV to replace the one above but why bother when we’re going to get our HD TV next month? The other thing is, purchasing the TV. I’ve been hearing how people take the TV out of the retail location only to bring it home being damaged in transit. All that money gone. I’m trying to impress my wife to get the TV at Future shop or Best Buy and let them bring it over and install it. That way if anything goes wrong they’ll be responsible for it until it’s installed. Walmart may be cheap but they don’t have installers.
The other thing is I’m kind of “excited” that I’ll be able to take out my CPP at 60. I’m not excited about turning 60 in 4 years but getting older is apart of life. I don’t know what I’d be getting on my CPP if I took it our for early retirement (er) but if say regular CPP at 65 is $600 and the penalty for early retirement is say $100 off that then by all means it’d be worth it. My friend Charles will be able to claim er in 2 years but of course he spent 25 years employed with the Federal Government so he’s ok. Patrick last night was saying how he’s getting $500/month. I’d get a lot less then that. I’d say $300/month. But there are a few supplements that kick in at 65 and some that might kick in at 60. Charles knows more about that then I would. Time to shake his cage a bit. He might have got to busy to call me so I’ll give him a shout on the way home from work this afternoon. I’ve gotten printouts from CPP before showing me what would happen if at that time I took out a disability etc and how much at that time I’d get. I need to get that aprint out again because 4 years is coming up sooner then I expect or even want.
And of course I can’t let this entry go by without a word about Sunday’s upcoming made for TV remake of “Knight Rider.” So tonight it’s the Oiler’s at Vancouver and Sunday it’s “Knight Rider 2.” Plus work on H and other stuff, I’ve got a full plate weekend. More later this evening before the game. Pardon the typos. I'll do an edit job later.
Anyway, that’s all for now
e. Jim
