That was the weekend. |
|
Feels nice to be able to watch the early Raw and get it out of the way to free up the rest of my Monday night. I decided not to Blog yesterday what it being Family Day and all. Just to clarify that when then 1989 Premier Don Getty created the Family Day weekend, it was because his Son got pulled over for driving under the influence of narcotics. He felt that families work to much adding to the already more stress piled up on top of families, that families need a day just for themselves. This is a Provincial holiday so Federal Government workers don’t get Family day weekend off. They get some other day off in lieu of. Hence the mail was delivered today.
I began writing scene #5 of H Saturday night and this afternoon. Well over 1,500 words. The story takes place in and near the market town called Rugeley in the Midlands of England. So in between writing the scene I’ve been doing research. Google Earth and Wiki comes in real handy here. Of course, I’ll provide a disclaimer because this is a work of fiction some artistic license has to be employed here. Some of the names and places have been changed and augmented to suit the location and the spirit of the story. I’ll word it out a little better if the story is accepted for publication.
About 5:30pm Anne went to A&W for our supper and got me their new sirloin beef burger. I enjoyed it. She made the fries and right after that Raw came on. She’s doing our laundry at the moment. We don’t have to go out to use the machines here in the building. Anne said that it’s $2.50/load. She does 6 loads of laundry here and it’s the same price for drying. I remember my old place on 156th st. I think it cost .75 cents/washing and .50 cents for drying. I worked the calculator over this (we have our own washer/dryer) and it would cost us $60/month just for laundry as we do it twice/week. So that’s $120/month. That’s $720/year were saving. I don’t think Anne has ever had to replace the dryer filter since I’ve been here with her. In my old place, I’d be lucky if I did the laundry once a month when I was single.
Getting back to Raw on a scale from 1-10, I’d rate it a 6.5. Nice to see “The Big show” back. Vince showing more tough love. JBL just laying it into Hornslwlogle. The show had it’s moments. It began with Triple H and ended with Triple H. It wasn’t bad. In all the years I‘ve been here with Anne, I don’t think I ever missed a Monday night Raw. I’ve been here with Anne since November 2000. I recall having cable even at my old place in October of that year when I first met my wife. I’m sure glad I had the common sense to continue our friendship even after she left Xl. We’ve had our moments most marriages do but marrying Anne was the best move I ever made. God was looking out for me that day.
From the odds and ends department: I would have watched “Space” last night if I wasn’t a fan of Raw. The thing that bugs me about Space is that for Prime Time, they had nothing on but repeats. I’ve yet to see shows like “Lost” and “Hero’s.” I haven’t even seen much of “Stargate,” or “Eureka.” Or even shows like "Forever Knight.” Like I said, I don’t watch a lot of TV. However if George Lucas plans on making a half hour return of Star Wars on the small screen, I will watch it but I hear it’s going to be animated. I hope I’m wrong. I like “Jumpers” but I’ll only see it when it comes to cable. I don’t like these horror/sci-fi crossover’s. Shows like 24 don’t do anything for me either. I am excited about Harrison Ford returning in another Indiana Jones movie. I heard May 2009. Lucas always like to release films in May. One of the best movies that went under my radar screen was the 2004 King Arthur. The recent one with Clive Owen. I had a chance to see it at work a few weeks ago not knowing exactly what I was watching , until Moe confirmed it for me. I loved everything about that movie. It kind of reminded me of “Lord of the Rings.” I loved the scenery in the last king Arthur movie. To me, I think this was the best portrayal of King Arthur ever. I totally loved it. Also on science fiction type movies, I’m looking forward to seeing “Iron Man.” I didn’t see “I am Legend.” yet. I’m in no hurry. I’ve probably missed a lot more SF/F related movies out there then I realize. I’m lucky if I see one movie/year, 300 didn’t do anything for me as I passed on that one. I’m also anxious to see the up coming “Dark Knight.” As for the new Star Trek XI, I’m not too excited about it. Other then that, I don’t see a lot of good science fiction movies that appeals to me on the immediate horizon.
There seems to be a lot of buzz going around the SF blogsphere over Elizabeth Bear’s “Shadow Unit.” This doesn’t do anything for me.
One thing that struck me about the Knight Rider movie Sunday night was it’s opening sequence. I thought it to be rather on the juvenile. Especially the new Michael Knight in bed with 2 women suggested a threesome and the “suggested” lesbian encounter with Sarah, that accompanies the new Michael Knight through most of the adventure and another soft moment. Then Sarah talks about a boyfriend she had etc. They talk about this. More adventurer and then Michael Knight talks about having a girlfriend and Sarah rips into him. Ok for her but not for him type thing. Other then that crap, I thought the show was pretty good. An FBI agent dies! David Hasselhoff makes a cameo appearance. KITT was the best part about the show. I hope they make another one if the ratings were decent.
I’m beginning to get that virus returning again from January. All this because of the “warmer weather.” It’s still going to be a short work week though, Yikes, tomorrow, -3C and no wind chill in the forecast.
It’s back to work today and I get 2 shifts in plus I’m going to try and do a Thursday morning because once again, it’s Lodge night. I also have close to $10 bucks on me for the Festive board, so I’m looking forward to that. I’m getting tired of sliced up submarine sandwiches though. The money for this comes out of the Junior Warden’s fund.
On Coast this morning, historian Laurence Gardner will discuss such topics as secret societies, the bloodline of the Holy Grail, & White Powder Gold. First Hour: Physicist James McCanney comments on new findings related to planets in our galaxy. Now this is more like it. I’ll be in bed listening for about an hour.
So at 4pm it’s back into the job for 4 hours. There’s also an Oiler game in Nashville. Uggh. Then it’s home and I hope I can get some more work in on H.
Anyway, that’s all for now
