A couple of days off |
|
No diary entry yesterday but I managed to get a blog entry from the day before. I left out of here at my usual time 4pm Wednesday afternoon. I got in wanting to find Rob. He was still there. I asked him if I could dhow up Thursday (this morning) and work the morning hour. He seemed pleased by that. Bud was saying that I need to get here early because the place is packed in the morning and they send people home if they are full. Yikes that sort of throws a damper on things. Anyway, I had a real slow start on the night. I ended up with just $20 bucks for the first hour. I rallied after I got my 2nd sale. By break I was sitting at $195, beating Dawn Fun sitting beside me by $20. Audrey’s books called and said they had 3 of the books I ordered were in. Vernor Vinge’s “Deepness in the sky.” The William Dietz’s “Logos Run” sequel to “Runner” And Alastair Reynolds “Pushing Ice.” in the 2nd half I did a lot better when we got doing CCSD. I even did well on the semies. I got a call from Charles with only a few minutes to go before the end of the shift. I said how I’d give him a call right back when were out in a few minutes. No totals to call thanks to this new system. I love it. I had Charles on the phone out the door and huffing down Jasper Ave to Corona where I’d lose the connection soon due to the underground. I regained contact with him when I got out of the tunnel and completed the chat I had with him for a few minutes. He says his team has been invited to go down to Calgary for a bowling tournament. I’d love to get into bowling but he said his team is all full. He’s been into it for about 4 years now.
So on my way home Anne called and said she’s making a stop over to Superstore. I did some admin stuff and caught the out of town hockey scores. I did some Internet stuff and Anne came in made my lunch and suggested even if Rob doesn’t pay me, take Thursday off. “You can go in for Saturday and get your pay cheque.” I weighed it all carefully of a whole 2 minutes and agreed. I now have 2 days off. Her reasoning was that when her allowance is cut off at the end of May, “Who knows how much longer we’ll have to be with each other what with us working the extra hours and all. Lets enjoy it while we can.” I agree with that to. COH: $34.57. Not bad for the middle of a pay week for Anne and I won’t need to pick up my cheque for Saturday.
After my beer, I’m hitting the sack and up hopefully about 5:45am where I can do the cbi thing and maybe read for half an hour. Then go back to bed and pass out. When I get up about noon, I’ll catch the news and work on H for the rest of the afternoon have my lunch after Anne leaves work on H some more and then call Neil to see if he’s going to the Lodge tonight. If so, I’ll snag a ride from him and buy him a beer at the festive board. Good times. I’ve got my part memorized for the WT and I’m going to have a great day off today and a nice evening. Hopefully the Oiler’s will win against Vancouver while I’m out at the Lodge. Then I get all day Good Friday off where all I’m going to do is work on H and read and maybe even get some piano practice in as well.
Saturday I’m going in for my Saturday 9am get my Tim’s breakfast sandwich and proceed for the Saturday shift and then pick up my cheque and then after work run over to Audrey’s and get a book. Maybe even 2. We’ll see. I’ll get the Alastair Reynolds “Pushing Ice” book for sure and maybe “Logos run.” I don’t really count J’s book as a full book and I think I can read his book in a few days. 138 pages it’s like reading a copy of Analog. Short and sweet. After that I’m reading “Undertow” by Elizabeth Bear. The it’s “Runner” by William Dietz and I’ll round that off with “The Eternity Artifact” by L.E. Modesitt jr. Three totally new authors for me.
On Coast tonight: Dissident intellectual Michael Cremo will present his argument that humans have not evolved but are in the process of devolving and how history and archaeology back up his claims. Interesting.
And now for some Bog type stuff; I’m working on 3 projects: Firstly trying to get Google’s Adsense working for me. I know I’ve got an add up there now but I can’t seem to be able to log into my reports and or to get other adds up and running and to change the color scheme of the current add. What I’d like to do is have (eventually) Markus pull down more of the blue logo area so I can have an impression an animated impression ad running right on top of my logo: E. Jim Shannon. Reason for this is mainly because, Markus and I feel that most of the page loads to this site are people looking for Shannon Airport. Since this blog began I already have received 21,00 hits since 2006. I know some people that get that/day. But if an impression ad is even 1 cent/page load, that means a page load is one visitor that sticks around for like 2 seconds even generates (for example) 1 cent that’s 21,00 cents, or $210. Not a lot of revenue but it is something. Revenue I’m losing because people want to find out about Shannon Airport. The other project I’m struggling with is Google’s “Analytics.” My web traffic counter is good but it seems I’m not getting a lot of subscribers. According to Feedburner (by Google now) SF Signal has about 450 subscribers. The other thing I‘m attempting is trying to figure out what‘s going on with my own Feedburner account. So I subscribed to the Forum and I went and made a post asking what‘s going on with my account? I know good content drives blog traffic and I appreciate all of my returning visitors. Tehcnorati’s authority confirms how many subscribers. Feedburner determines online readers/subscribers. I think. So those are a few projects I’m working on. Like I said, if I can get enough revenue just to cover this website/year, I’d be happy.
Anyway Blogers, that’s all for now.
