From Saturday |

Hey it’s a Spring snow day Saturday. It actually came down on my way out the office last night. I had a good 5 hours sleep overnight and got up about 6:40am Saturday morning and fired up the computer, then got a coffee. Half an hour later I got access to my desktop. According to Crucial my PC takes DDR Sdram, I think. Memory Express only has it in the 512mb configuration. So I’m going to break open this case this weekend and identify the exact type of Ram. Then when I’m ready I’ll call ahead first for price and availability. I only have 2 Ram slots. I left out of here with time against me as I wanted to take a couple of photographs of the conditions outside.
This photo is of our balcony with that unsightly plastic overlapping our balcony from the people upstairs: My wife doesn’t want to make any noise about it to the caretakers because the caretakers wont do anything. But if it was us to the people above, they’d be on our case like a dirty shirt. The most important thing you can see in this photo is the snow coming down. Edmonton’s been known to get this kind of weather this time of year but this is rare:
In this photo the image is facing South looking down the park like divide between our building right and Edmonton housing left. There’s a cemented pathway somewhere under all that snow:
And in this next photo is of after I got my Tim’s breakfast sandwich and the parking lot as I’m heading South East towards the big building in the background through the snow. It wasn’t cold out at all actually. If anything the weather was nice. If you can see the white Van parked there facing left and the pole immediate behind it, that’s where Hobbit’s Fantasy Shoppe was located in 1979. And this is progress? The City owns this property and so far even in the economic boom we’ve had here, they are still using it for parking. It’s been like this since 1983. Seasons change of course:
And finally the last photo, if I can get it in (finicky Geeklog being what it is) is of the Clairview Reddi Mart. There’s only two of these stores along the LRT line here in Edmonton. This is where we get out bus passes every month:
We ended up doing WCS for most of the morning. Then thanks to Bud who wanted to do “Baseball Bonanza.” (I hate this campaign) Moe had to move me. I sat in Fran’s dialer near the end and ended up doing really well. I got a $100 credit card sale and a $50 cc and 4 more credit card sales for a total of 6/$12 on the whiteboard that goes towards the 19 credit card sales I got this week. Tuesday-Saturday. If I’d work that Monday I would have most likely got 20, if not 25. So then next week, I’m working from Monday-Saturday and Tues-Wed 7 hour shifts. This will give me 32.5 hours. 19 credit card sales (if none are declined) that $38 bucks in bonus money. The weekend of April 25th (anniversary day for me. 27 years since Thelema day 1.) If things go well I’ll have $100 bucks in my pocket by next week, my Ram chip sample and over to Memory Express to get the Ram and of course my Science Fiction book of the week.
On Coast tonight: Legendary comic book artist Neal Adams will discuss his career in comics as well as his science theory related to the idea of an expanding Earth. I don’t know much about Neal Adams mainly because he worked mostly with DC comics and I wasn’t a fan of DC. Adams worked for awhile at Marvel on “The Avengers” (my favorite Marvel comic book) but only did 3 issues. So his work for me, went in one ear and out the other, so to speak. James Steranko and George Perez were my two favorite comic book artists.
Making my blog rounds a little on the late side Saturday/Sunday and I had to respond to Keith Graham’s position on “global warming.” Of course this skeptic has a different view of the AGW and the hysteria polemic against it. You can read my prolix rambling here. If he accepts it. I know I would if people are opposed to my views.
I’ve been following Elizabeth Bear’s “Shadow unit” off and on. Not that she contributes to a lot of the writing. I’m almost finishing UT and Bear is a talented writer. If Undertow is an example of her writing, then wow. I’m looking forward to reading more or her stuff. This is not “a review” of course. That will be next week.
Also I replied to Chris Roberson’s blog mentioning how I bought “Dragon’s of the 9 Sons.” book. Of course I’ve got other books ahead of his but it’ll most likely be one of the books I’ll be reading this year.
Anyway Bloggers, that’s all for now.
