Part 2:
So I get to ME and they were pretty busy. ME is like a warehouse facility. I got to the clerk/till and he identified my Ram from the sample I bought with me. Sure enough, $54 bucks. I got my invoice and the 1Gb Ram and deposit this in my backpack. Also, I have $30 left over as well. By the same token, Future shop was going to install 512Mb,for $80 at the time about a year ago. They probably had the PC3200 Ram when I asked then about htis last week. I’m going to call them on this later today. Anne had called me a few more times before this and I was pretty excited about this store. They got lots of good stuff there as I held my cell phone to my ear walking her though what I was looking at. Some nice HDTV’s, cool PC systems, the works. I saw some external back up hard drives going for $40 bucks. I can’t remember what size it was. The only 2 things I want to get for this computer now is the external drive and the printer laser scanner, all-in-one. I asked the clerk there if I needed a grounding wire to install the Ram? “No, just make sure you touch the case.” “Hi James.” I look around, and there was Dale at the counter paying for some items at the till with a companion and he reminded the guy how I am a Lodge member to. I didn’t recognize him but he seemed to remember me. I mentioned about the 60 year bar and the MM degree coming up. Dale went through the EA with Nathan and I back in 2002. We had a nice chat out the door and Anne called again. My battery power was low. Seems they were in a bit of a hurry anyway.
After that I worked my way back across the intersection and I could see the #304 about a block away from me ready to pull out. I didn’t know how long she would be waiting or when the next bus would pull in. I ran for it and barely caught the bus before it left. I was sweating in the +19C heat of the day we had. I was happy ME was easier to get to then I thought, beautiful weather, and I got my Ram and caught up with Dale. I was wondering if I’d run into Uve. In a way I'm glad I didn't but that's another story for a whole other time.
Of course Anne called me several times. I got to Southgate and boarded the #9 bus like she suggested. I changed my mind and got the #6 University and she called as the bus was pulling into the University transit station. Yes I’d call her when the bus would be leaving. (Dry boring paragraph) She wanted to meet me at Stadium. I forgot to let her know I was on the front of the train. We finally hooked up with each other at Rexall. She wanted to get me a Wendy’s after she got my insulin. I caught the #11 bus home and she took another short bus up to Walmart. Yeesh what a day. I’m exhausted. So when I got inside our apartment first thing I wanted to do was to get a shower and then install that Ram. I should have had a nap instead but I also wanted to install that Ram.
I had a heck of a time installing the 1Gb strip in. Mostly because of the absence of light and all the cables in the way. I still don’t think I had the Ram in the slot secure enough. Equally as difficult was installing the 256Mb Ram, since I had never removed Ram or replaced it in my computer before. So I hooked everything out and hoped it would work. Sure enough, it did. I clicked My Computer and checked “properties.” It displayed Something like 960Mb of Ram. This is strange because I have a 1Gb strip and a 256Mb strip. Shouldn’t that read 1256Mb Ram? Perhaps that’s current available Ram to work with. But the Ram seems to be installed ok. Since doing this the last time, I had only 256Mb.
Also, I noticed that the computer booted up about 90% faster. What took me almost 45 minutes to boot up so I could use my desktop now took about 5 minutes. If I had the full 2Gb worth of Ram, It’d take me about 2 minutes to boot up. So essentially it’s like a whole new computer. Very pleased.
So Anne called from Wendy’s after I had shut the computer down and ordered me the bacon double cheese burger and biggie fries. Good stuff. I love days like this when everything just works out well. I watched what was left over from the Habs/Boston Game and the Stars/Ducks game. Anne made me a baked pasta and we each have a Vodka Cooler for a bit later. Not that I think I’ll be needing it but this is going to help me sleep.
So for today, I’m up around noonish and it’s off over to get my haircut. Call Edmonton transit about a job posting and how do I go about it. Anne’s got a coupon and I’ll bring a $20 as it’ll cost me $6 for the haircut with the coupon. Also I want to go to The Source on my way home and get some of their $7 headphones. See if they sound any better then the ones Anne got me from the dollar store. Then after that, it’s relax the rest of the afternoon and get ready for that SJ/Flames game. I love this time of year.
So, anyways that's been my day. I'm beat and I need a good 10 hours of sleep.
Anyway Bloggers, that’s all for now
