    From last night and today

From last night: Nathan picked me up outside right on time. It was a pleasure to attend lodge last night. Even Dale showed up as well. Haven't seen him in a long time in Lodge. We had one candidate and about 25 guys in attendance. We suspended regular business because of the EA degree and got out of the Temple around 9:30pm when Anne called as I was at the bar/counter. It was a good time even though the lecture John gave was a little too long. The festive board was free and I bought Nathan a beer and I had a can of Stella. We had Pizza at the festive board, which was nice. Reg was passing around a ticket book for a draw on a watch from his Lodge. I figured since the festive board was free why not. Probably he knew in advanced it was going to be free, which is why he brought out the tickets. At $5 a ticket no big deal. I got home about 10:40pm from Neil. Nathan said he’d see what he could do to see about picking up our TV for Saturday but I'm not going to hold my breath. We need some mounting hooks of some kind for it anyway. Trouble with these TV’s is they give off a lot of heat. Plasma and LCD HDTV's both have pros and cons.

Yesterday afternoons Relic Hunter was called “9 lives.” Episode #14 with Carlo Rota as guest star from the Food Channel. It wasn’t bad. On a scale from 1-10 I’d rate it a 6.5. It’s central theme was Egyptology. They have some nice segue elements in the episode I liked.

SF Signal brought out a YouTube video today, suggesting that there might be something odd about the Star Trek phrase: “He’s dead Jim!” I counted 20 times “He’s dead Jim.” Variations don’t count, no doubt from 20 different episodes. Most of these, “He’s dead Jim‘s” come from McCoy. I wonder by the same token how many times Ryker said to Picard: “He’s dead Captain!” Yeesh.

So, Itunes is now delivering some TV episodes. They’re charging $2 an episode for Torchwood according to SF Signal. I don’t know if other TV classics can be downloaded this way, but seems like a good idea. I’d love the complete series of Firefly from Itunes. Or even My Favorite Martian.

So, what’s on tap for today? Not much. I’m going in for my 5pm shift. Get my cheque work out the 3.5 hours and head home. At least the rent is paid up for the month and we’ve got funds for our TV. I doubt we’ll have the TV ready for the game Saturday night but that’s ok. I’d be watching the TV for Space and wrestling and play Oblivion on my PSP when I get that around the end of the year. I could get it earlier if I go the rent to own route. Easy Home rent to own has PS3’s going for $25 bucks/week. I'd rather buy the console out right. I don't need it that badly.

Overnight Update: Coast was kind of lame last night. I got up around 6am this morning to do the cbi thing. I had a decent sleep for a few hours and then back immediatly to bed until noon. I think I got 7 hours in. Oil climbed back up another $2 and change to closeout the weekend at $115/barrel. Still working on Pandora's Star. I'm at page 206/988. Still a long way to go. And then there's the sequel as well! I figure I read about 12 pages/day. That's 782 pages left remnaining. I'll have this book completed in another 65 days at this rate. Most likely I'll have it read by around the July 1st long weekend. This is an unusually long book. Most SF books are around the 320 page mark. I can read a book like that in 2 weeks. But this one is exceptionally long. Still L. Ron Hubbard's "Battlefield Earth" I think still holds the record for the longest Science Fiction book ever. These long books are good to read over the summer. Peter F. Hamilton's next book in the sequel Judas unchained has 1008 pages At 12/pages day, and say I start Tuesday July 2nd 2008-is 84 days. Some days like the weekends I read more. But I think for the sequel to Ps I should have that read around August 21st, my birthday. Then that will be it for big books for awhile.

Anyway Bloggers, that’s all for now

    e. Jim
