Back at it for Tuesday

Anne went and got the driver from Salvation Army and paid him $50 to deliver our TV. I helped him drag it through the door. Setting it up was pretty easy and let me tell you 42” is big. We could have saved ourselves a few hundred bucks and bought the 37” and that would have been big in itself. Anne’s not entirely happy with the picture quality. It looked a lot different then the one on display at Walmart where we got it. I think it has something to do with the HDMI cable and the new set box. Playing around with the picture settings will help as well but I think we’re just to close to a really big TV. There’s about 5 feet of space between me and the TV. I think it’s too big but I can’t convince Anne about it. Personally I think she should take it back and get the 37” one but she’s not going to pay the guy another $50 bucks to do it.

Ok, by now the world has learned about the 500 Ducks that got perished in the oil sands tailing ponds recently near Fort McMurry. Sure it’s sad but this is the first time that such an event has happened on this large of a scale. Syncrude has taken out a public apology in national newspapers. Take 500 ducks, add snow and emotion, bake as hot as you can and serve it up to the media. That’s basically what’s going on here. On the other hand lets put this into perspective. Sorry for employing the old bait and switch routine but in Southern Alberta Wind turbines kill hundreds of birds every year but we don’t hear Greenpeace Canada saying anything about them do we? Syncrude needs to put in a "stripper system" that is very simple, removes the hydrocarbon from water so at least there is no oil on these ponds. But the same ones complaining of fuel prices will want a carbon tax? Better money spent in our province for resources than the middle east. Meanwhile some US lobbyists have been against the use of Alberta Tar sands Oil. Making it harder to market our oil. Well we can always sell to China

Not much going on today. I’m heading into work hopefully it’s just go in and that’s that. Business as usual. I mean Rob’s got students that can come in 3 days a week as Tap shooters and he’s complaining about me when half the tap shooter isle leaves at 7pm half way during the shift? I shouldn’t be too worried about it.

Last night on Coast was about the Crystal Skulls (not an Indian Jones movie tie in) and a bit on The Philadelphia experiment. One of my favorite topics but I couldn’t stay awake for the whole thing. I wish they’d have these shows on the weekends.

Other then that not much else is going on. It’s just into work and go through the motions of the 4 hours. I’m going to ask JT if I can use his name for a reference because I want to apply at Telus. At $20 bucks an hour, this would be right up my alley. For a 7 hour shift that’s about $150 bucks/day. Or $1500 every 2 weeks. Of course the Feds would take out a huge chunk of that and might leave me with $1,200/2 weeks. Even in this hot economy jobs like that must be tough to get. But I can at least try. With all the towers out there in the downtown core it’s beginning to look the construction boom of downtown Dubai. We go through these phases about every 20 years or so.

Anyway Bloggers, that’s all for now
