It was on this day 29 years I go I got my income tax return and went shopping on that Friday night. I was going to exist off Chinese food for 3 days otherwise or go mooch off Richard for a few days. I was really in dire straights at the time. I recall coming home from Meadowlark Mall with my chicken balls and rice from pop cans I had saved up. I’m sure Same would have lent me $5 until payday. I was really excited to get that cheque. The amount was $205 and I recall pleading with one of the Meyer kids to help cash it for me if I gave them a $20. Other wise I’d have to wait for Monday. I recall it had just stopped raining and Robert Myers older brother had a vehicle and drove me to the bank. I think his bank closed at 6pm and it was just minutes before closing time. I recall how that weekend was opening weekend for “The Empire Strikes back.” Richard Ellen and I went to see it downtown the next day before I watched the New York Islanders defeat the Philadelphia Flyers. What made this game so special was that it was the first time a team other then the established NHL franchise teams always won the cup. Then we went to see the movie. That weekend was a magical weekend for me and holds a lot of memories.
So when the new Indiana Jones movie is released today it kind of brought back memories of the ESB movie and that weekend 29 years ago.
Thursday night wasn’t too bad. There was a sense of dread amongst the office about the regional manager in the office doing his fact finding mission. We also didn’t get our pay cheque’s because of the yearly audit. normally Bart used to do this but he’s in the states running another part of the Xl operation there. Trying to escape out of all the recent Edmonton operations controversy. Anyway, I decided I couldn’t care less. All I wanted to do was to do well and get some credit cards. (I began collecting cans all night and stuffed them in a bag under my dialer.) This company doesn’t care about me anymore then I care about it. This is why I won’t give out the company name in full. I had just around $300 by break and Anne called. All I wanted was to do well and get a credit card sale or more. I have 9/12 on the week. However I ended up with top total at $615 or the night and I collected my things and pop cans and got the hell out of there. I had a brief wait for my train and I was home by 9:30pm. No credit card sales all night. I did my admin thing and Anne called to say she needed another $20 from ou reserve cash. Have it ready by the door. She came in we said a few things, she went out and came home with the large Agnes beef burgers for supper last night.
We watched the news and I’m about ready to shut things down here for bed. I’m getting pretty tired. One thing that works good in my favor as far as this review is concerned is I’ve been having top total every night over the last couple of nights. And if management decides it doesn’t want me here then this might be the best thing that could happen to me. I’m not going to worry about it. The past few nights have been in my favor. I’m banking decent and there’s a worker shortage here in Alberta. If they decided to let me go I won’t fight it and I won’t be coming back.
This afternoon I’m in at 4pm as usual and I’ll work out the night and bring my cheque home to my wife. If I survive the audit, then fine, happy days.
