A historic Saturday

I managed to get a few hours of sleep in overnight. I got in bed shortly after ECW. Good show.

I met Bud just outside of Corona yesterday about 4:30pm as he was on his way home and he’d got his cheque saying something like the whole review thing was bs. I got myself a bag of Cheese pleasers at the Drugstore and got my end dialer. I started slow and in an cranky mood. By 6pm I was sitting at around $160 and in a better mood and by break I had $315 and 2 credit cards and my mood picked up. I felt a lot better aware that this was my ESB 29th anniversary. Anne called me just before break and we had a chat. She got her cheque, I hadn’t got mine yet. Moe moved me over to JT’s dialer and I had 2 more credit cards for a total of 13 for the week and there’s always today’s shift. I got my cheque and somehow even got $13 in bonuses out of it. How I don’t know since Rob changed the credit card sale thing. I need just a few more credit card sales in case some of them kick out on me. Also, I called Audrey’s and all 3 of my Ben Bova “Asteroid Wars” books are in. Wonderful. I’ll go in and get those this afternoon after work.

This morning unlike most May 24th’s only a few of them fell exactly on a Saturday in complete alignment with the original May 24th of 1980. I recall how I was early for “Fighter practice” this wasn’t a regular thing we did or anything but Richard was building his “House of Templars.” So far Ellen and I were it. He was really trying to build himself up to be a Thelemic cult guru of some kind. The end of the world was nigh at hand. Anyways I recall how I got up around 6:30am that overcast morning here in Edmonton and realized that taking a bus was un reliable at that hour and I had this sense of urgency that Ellen had slept overnight at his place. I think I got there at exactly around this time, 7:35am and there was a slight drizzle of rain in the air mixed in with a bit if fog. Not thick London England fog. When we completed our “fighter practice” and got cleaned up and some fried egg sandwiches we noticed a break in the weather. We decided to walk over to Hobbits and pick up our comic book files and I’d take Ellen home. Actually I had picked my file up the night before. So here the 3 of us were walking towards Hobbits but we ended up at the SoS looking around. I bought a ceremonial Indian trinket/dagger Richard suggested I use as an Athame. I didn’t know what that was at the time. After that we went into Edmonton Center (City Center) Mall into Eaton’s and Richard had found a couple of Black Candles. I lent him $10 and on our way out of Eaton’s by the “Toy’s and Wheel’s” shop a crowd had been gathering and I said if we could stop to watch the closing seconds of the Flyers and Islanders game. I knew this was a historic moment. Ellen and Richard couldn’t care less of course. Once outside onto Jasper Ave we noticed the huge line up for Star Wars “The Empire Strikes back.” “Oh yeah last night was opening night, I’d pay for all of us to see it but look at that line up.” Richard was noticing the crowds and as we were about maybe a hundred people in the line Richard stopped me and pointed out Reg and Darlene a couple of friends of his from Scientology. “Would they let us in the line up?” Sure. Nobody objected. This was turning out to be an exceptional day. I had no idea how this would impact me 29 years later.

29 years ago I didn’t know what I wanted. All I knew was I had a job a roof over my head and some money in my pocket. I knew I was in love with Ellen at the time and if she was into this Aleister Crowley stuff then I’d follow her into it hoping she’d be alright and maybe work it out of her system. At that time 29 years ago, I still held out hope that there was a future for Ellen and I. Little would I know that by September 1981 she’d be married to Charles.

Looks like we’re getting a break in the weather as things are going to clear up. Last night on the news the news guy mentioned that it was 20 years ago last night that Edmonton Oiler’s/Boston Bruins were in the Stanley Cup finale when the lights went out. The then NHL commissioner for the 2nd time in NHL history canceled a Stanley cup game. The Oiler’s won their 4 and last Stanley Cup with Wayne Gretzky.

Not much going on this weekend. I’m going to reformat CH and work on my website logo and some piano practice. I wanted to get one of the piano books but I also want to clear up my Audrey’s order as well to complete my 4 books for the month. One book a week, I’m right on pace. Then there’s game 1 of the Stanley Cup finale Detroit and Pittsburgh. The Wings have dynamite team this year and remind me of the 1987/88 Oiler’s. Other then that, not much else is going on. I’ll get my books and place a book order and head home, maybe grab a nap before the game at 6pm. That’ll be over by about 8:30pm. Work on CH before lunch and catch the news at 11 and wind out the evening.

Last night Coast was dull. They had arguably the 2 most negative people on the planet, Art Bell and Ed Dames. I used to like Art but now it’s all doom and gloom. Him and Alex Jones and Sylvia Browne. Good God. Tonight’s show isn’t that much better, talking about organized crime and D.B. Cooper. Talk about a lame show for a Saturday night. Sunday nights show at least is a bit better on UFO discloser.

I don’t know what I’ll do on Sunday. Most likely read from Ps and work on CH. I’ve settled down in my middle age, not that I’m complaining mind you. One thing I want to do is see if the New Westminster Library has a business directory for 1974 and see what businesses were at specific addresses at that time. I know every City has a directory like this.

Anyway Bloggers, that’s all for now
