A busy month

It looks like a really nice day out there. I’d say about +9C.

We went to bed about 4am. Last thing I remember doing online was researching the origins of the word “Goblins.” or Goblin, which originally came out of the Anglo-French Medieval Latin era. The word Goblin is not from someone’s universe as in J. R. Tolkin’s “Orc.” According to Wiki the word “Ogre” some believe, appeared by Charles Perrault or Marie-Catherine Jumelle de Berneville, Comtesse d'Aulnoy (1650-1705) because according to Wiki, it is French word. That makes sense. The word Troll is more Nordic and appeared in legends and fairy tales so these words are not necessarily copy write material. I began wondering about the origins of Goblin, Ogre and Troll that appear with such abandon (as in noun) current literature and who first began using them.

I really wanted to go to “Pure Speculation” this weekend. It wasn’t like I didn’t have enough notice. Friday nights/Saturday mornings are always hard on me. When Saturday afternoon came around at 2pm I was exhausted. The way the buses run on the weekends is tough late in the afternoon. By the time I got to the bus stop to get me there would have been about 2:30pm. Add another half an hour to get there and most of anything would have been all but over except for the gaming and vender tables. I’m not into the costume shin-ding, which happened later last night. At 56 years old I cant see myself strutting away in a Star Trek costume. Maybe if I was in my 30’s sure. I went over to Audrey’s instead and bought a Warhammer 40K Omnibus: “Space Marines” book. I’m not against going to SF conventions, it’s just that I didn’t plan this one well enough. I hope it was a huge success as they are wrapping it up about now and I hope they are going to have it again next year. Anne and I were even considering going over there today but she’s got so much on the go this afternoon and I just got up around 2:45pm. So much for Pure Speculation this year. Next year though I’m going to give the boss a months warning and say “Pure Speculation” weekend is my weekend. This time of year is a perfect time of year for the convention as well.

I tried having a nap when I got home yesterday afternoon and I think I got a couple of hours and I felt refreshed, ready to watch the Oiler’s host the Flames hockey game. How long can this winning streak for the Oiler’s last? The Flames came in and scored 2 goals on Geron. Uh-oh, here we go. Then in the 2nd the Oiler’s bounced back and got 3 goals from Morrow, Pisani, and Cogliano. I was loving this. Watch out for that Eric Cole fellow. The announcers were saying that this was the best Oiler start to a regular season since the mid 1980’s. Right now their 4-0. Good stuff.

So during the evening as I had “Pure Speculation” on my mind I began going over this Ad Brite email. They’ve got a 3rd party traffic generating vendor “Spottt” no spelling error. My account has been approved but I’m not expecting anything until next week. Like I said, I’d like some revenue out of this site, if only to help pay for some of it. I know Blogger is free but I can do more with this website then I can with Blogger. I use Blogger to relieve “stress” off of my website. If I’m not blogging here I’m over there at Blogger. My site has never been about content for the masses.

Not much going on this week. Last week was the election and I’m glad that’s over with and then there was the FC lodge night, which I didn’t get to attend either no thanks to the job getting in the way. Sure I can work mornings and if I don’t do well mornings Rob will put me onto the front 20. Mornings are hard on me anyway. I need another job. This job I’m working at now just drains me on a Saturday. I was so exhausted I didn’t even get out to go up to City Center Mall for a fast food treat. I like to do that once every other month or so. I was just drained. But at least I got 19.5 hours in and I’ll qualify for my stat pay.

This October was a month chalk full of a activities and events. First there was the aftermath of that DNC list, then the regular lodge meeting, which I didn’t get to attend. Anne’s sister Donna and I finally met and she took us out to dinner. Then we had Thanksgiving long weekend, then there was the election, then the emergent meeting. The Oiler’s regular season began. Then if that wasn’t enough there was “Pure Speculation,” and now Halloween. Yeesh what a month. All that and I still got a lot of reading and piano practicing in.

Next month is November and it’s a month with a few less things going on. There is our regular monthly business meeting and Remembrance Day, which falls on a Tuesday. So because we have to work the day before and the day after to qualify for our stat pay.

Right now Anne is making us a late brunch and I’m about ready to watch “Flash Gordon.”

Anyway Bloggers, that‘s all for now

e. Jim
