    A snow day Tuesday

Our first snow fall. it’s coming down nicely actually but it’s a very fine snow. You’d have to squint though to see it and its not building up much. Also even though it’s -3C out there it’s the wind that’s kicking in. In all my 30 years of being here in Alberta I’ve never seen it so windy before. I'll try and post a photo later tonight.

I took this photo about 4:10pm this afternoon. This camera has a tendency to make the shot about 10 % darker then it normaly is.

Last night I left out of here feeling alright. I didn’t feel like reading much yesterday. Anne and I had a bit of an argument. She thinks we’re going to get a rental increase because she saw a chart on the wall in the landlords office that read 2 bed room apartments are $900/month. Our rent is $850/month. In 1999 for a 1 bedroom top floor of a walk up I was paying $320/month. We already had a rental increase in October. Because we have no rent controls a landlord can not raise the rent more then once in 365 days. We also have rental subsidy here in Alberta. So we were fighting about that and that didn’t leave me feeling very good to go out and do my job. Anne had left about an hour before me to the veggie market.

Because the numbers (mine anyway) have been down the last month Rob wanted 4 of us to call again people that were on the COP DNC list. “If they complain say something like, “we’re just trying one last time to gain your support but we will do a total wipe out of the list.” Personally I think we’re flirting with disaster. I had a slow start getting my computer to work. By 5:30pm I was up and running. Surprisingly I had nobody mention anything to me about a DNC list. The 2nd half I had about 4 DNC’s but nobody was officially irate with me. I got 3 CC’s and top total for a $25 bonus but Shank being last night might be his last night as so close right behind me, and I like Shank, I asked Moe if we could split it. I’d get $15 and Shank can have $10.

I left out of the office in a breezy Monday night but feeling pretty good. I got home and Anne wasn’t around. Stuff not there when I left the place empty told me she had come and gone. I watched a pretty good show of Monday night Raw. On a scale from 1-10 I’d rate it an 8.5. Lots of fun. Anne came in about 10:30pm shopping at Superstore across the street. Pork chops and foil potatoes. Good supper.

So this is what I’m considering for the New Year: Hopefully I’ll get the Ms simulation and I can work on that to improve my score for the next class session, in January. If I don’t qualify then I’ll be over at Pizza working with my wife in the new year. I’d like to work a full shift 32 hours/week. Friday 11-7pm/Saturday 11-7pm Sunday 6-2pm/Monday 6-2pm. This way I have 3 days off and every one of those days in the week will be a Thursday. That’s if I can get on at Pizza and I don’t get on at Ms then it’s over to Pizza. I’d prefer Ms of course as it’s working just days, no weekends. Either way I’ll be out of Xl by the new year. I’d obviously would like to get on with Ms because they pay weekly. I don’t mind where I’m working right now but with this DNC list compromising our data base, I’m worried about having a job by the end of the year. Also with the DNC list, I’m in a dangerous situation by being fined by the Feds for something Xl is doing. There’s talk that the Feds are going to start leveling fines on companies that are doing what we were doing last night. Prior to this DNC list Xl was a fun place to work. To some extent it still is but at what cost? Also Pizza and Ms deposit the cheques right into my account. They’ve never done that at Xl and I’m always fighting to get my cheque on a Thursday or Friday night.

Next week, I’m going to ask Rob for my vacation pay and I should get that on the 19th. That week (before) I’ll work extra hours to fatten up my cheque with my hopefully last vacation pay at Xl. And I’ll just say something like, “I don’t want to burn my bridges or anything but I just want to try something else.” Ideally I’d rather have an inside security guard job where I can read and do other stuff. That may be in the works to in the new year.

Anyway Bloggers, that’s all for now

    e. Jim
