Whom among us of my generation can not forget this day 28 years ago. December 7th 1980. This was the day John Lennon died. I was 28 years old living on the shores of the North Saskatchewan here in Edmonton’s Riverdale area. I lived near the shadow of the Dawson bridge in a duplex at the time with Richard and Ray. I was alone at the time that evening listening to a radio when the news came on. A part of me died when I heard that news. I have it recorded in my original diary almost as I heard it.

I don’t like to talk a lot about music in my Blog, its too subjective. However if my SF writing has any musical influences at all, it’d be the music of The Clash. Sure I like other kinds of music as well. I like almost anything from the 1980’s. Many of the artists from the 1970’s and 1980’s are still going strong. I like most of the music from these bands today. The only “original “ music I liked out of the 1990’s was the 3rd wave Ska revival. I like bands like The Specials and The Toasters, Jamaican Ska and the English Beat. I even like some Christian Ska like “OC Supertones” and the “Insyderz.” When I first discovered Ska was when I was flirting with Christianity at the Faith Cathedral in the mid to late 1990’s. I thought this music would break the back of Rap and Hip-hop so prevalent in the 1990’s. Fortunately bands like Kansas, Allan parsons, Midnight Oil, we’re still producing new studio albums in the 1990’s. I don’t go to shows much anymore. I wasn’t a big concert goer ifan in the first place. I saw 2 concerts in my life: Alice Cooper in 1971 and The Police in 1983. I mention music today as a tribute to John Lennon.

My wife’s off work today and tomorrow so this means she’s going to start laundry. We only have 1 washer and dryer so it takes like 6-8 hours to do our laundry every other week. She’s very rigid about doing this.

Not much going on for today. It’s into work for Raw and home
