A weird week |
|
The other day A few of the new people were having a conversation talking about an agency here in Alberta that offers income support for low wage earners and medical benefits. It’s not a lot but they need a medical report and a bank statement. I’m booking for an appointment for my doctor after I get the bank statement. Their office is in the same building where Anne and I tried to get support after my stay in the hospital trying to recover from diabetes a few years ago. They wouldn’t give it to us because we had pension funds we could access. I suspect we’re going to get the same kind of answer, but because it’s income support maybe things might be different. Maybe.
I left out of here at 4pm in the -20C weather. It wasn’t that bad out there going in. I met M on the way in all happy with me and that sort of thing.
I got my usual dialer and had a slow start to the shift and gradually built up sales all night. Including 1 CC. I got my train home and read a bit.
Speaking of which I finished reading “Helix” this afternoon and I’m beginning to read Mary Rosenblaum’s “Horizons.” My reading speed has picked up a little as well reading “Helix.”
“Helix” by Eric Brown:

Synopsis: In a post global warming world where society has collapsed what’s left of humanity makes a desperate bid to the stars so the human race can start again. The human ship with its crew held in suspended animation of 4 thousand crash lands on an alien snow covered world. The adventure begins covering 2 story arch’s of 4 humans and 2 upright weasel type beings. The humans discover they are on a strange construction called the helix. Both story arch’s eventually meet in this highly entertaining collision course of good and evil.
Pros: Wonderful use of language with a great use of back story that moves 4 humans and other creatures towards their ultimate destinies. Great World building and a sense of wonder sprinkled without the novel. The ending will totally surprise you.
Cons: A bit too much story on the 2 weasel characters. I would have liked to have seen more story about the Helix
Bottom line: I really enjoyed this book. It held my interest through out the story from page one. I liked the characters the story lines and the world building and use of language. This book was a record for me. I read the whole thing in 10 days and even though I completed reading “Helix” this morning it still leaves an after taste in my mouth long after I read it.
Score: 5 e.Jim's out of 5.
Friday is Lodge night and I have the night off. I also miss the Oiler’s/SJ game as well. Oh well.
Anyway Bloggers, that’s all for now.
