Last Saturday this month

Yesterday I got up a bit early having enough sleep I decided to get some Oblivion in. My wife had an early shift and I had a few hours to myself. Good news about Boots. Anne found him over there by the town homes where the road bends heading to the school.

I finished “Logos run” Thursday. So I might as well get on with the “review.”

Review Summary: This was a much improved upon sequel to “Runner.“ Good story even though Dietz’s prose was hard for me to get into. I liked the story.

Brief Synopsis: Pt 2 of the series, Two competing AI’s at war with each other trying to take control of the Star Gates.

My review:

Pros: Good story continuing from part 1 with a AI named Logos. The story for the most part had decent pacing. The characters were well thought out and drew you along even though the narrative had its week points. Excellent world building and solid character development.

Cons: Narrative flow seemed lost at times in the drama but reestablished itself near the middle of the story. The ending seemed rushed but wasn’t what I expected.

Bottom line: Both “Runner” and “Logos run” are currently in print. I enjoyed this series and recommend it. I found Dietz’s prose awkward at times but soon got used to his style. The main strength of this series is the Buddhist undertones in the world building and the old adapting with the new. I enjoyed this series and would buy a 3rd book if Dietz ever writes another.

I give “Logos run” 8/10 e. Jim’s.

After I had my lunch yesterday it was off to work with my new read: Timothy Zahn’s “The third lynx.” I learned from Fantastic Fiction that there is a 3rd book in this series: “Odd girl out” I’m going to be ordering this next week

My trip to the office was uneventful, just the way I like it. Nobody said anything to me as to my absence Thursday. I got to sit in the back and by break me and one of the new people were leading the office for totals. I was at l/h by break. G got my cheque and my bonuses were there. I had a nice paycheque for a change. I left out of there with a bunch of bottles and cans and headed to catch the #5 bus up to my bank. I quickly cashed that and headed down to Central station for my train that came in right away. Extra cars. I got inside and did some admin and watched Smackdown.

Anne came in and ordered us pizza. 2 large and I enjoyed half while watching ECW, That’s my snack for the hockey game tonight. Oiler’s hosting Wild as we come close to the March trade deadline March 4th. Next Wednesday.

Anne wanted to spend some time with Boots. He might be going out again next week when the weather clears up. She said when she found him he wasn’t cold at all. Even though he’s an outdoor cat, we’re left wondering if he doesn’t belong to somebody.

Not much going on today. It’s in for my 4 hours. I’m buying my bus pass on the way into work and a book at Audrey’s on my way home and my lottery ticket. $10M this round. I’ll stay up for half an hour and then get my nap.

We’re about 2 weeks behind on our rent but we have access to funds in our RRSP we can get at for the rest. Anne’s post dating a cheque for the balance of our rent for her next paycheque. We could get a 14 day notice but we’ll have it paid up by then. The bottom line here is Anne’s been threatening to apply for that subsidy. We might not get it because of our dwindling RRSP.

This means I need to put extra hours in and I’ve been holding back on that. I don’t need to do this every day. Three days/week is all I need and just out of my paycheques alone I can cover the rent. But between the both of us we can’t dip into that RRSP anymore. The only other time I’d like to maybe dip into it is to buy another computer, while were able to write it off.

After my nap, I’m getting ready to watch the Oiler game and work out my Saturday night.

Anyway, gang that’s all for now.

e. Jim
