Walking, work and books |
|
This going to bed at 4am has got to end. Sure it gives me a good 8.5 hours sleep and all, and I need that but it doesn’t give me much time after I wake up until the time I go to the job. I do all my internet work mostly at night in the wee hours. I check my bsl levels almost daily. On the weekends sometimes 2-3 times/day. For instance right now my bsl level is at 9.2. Just before the danger zone of 10. Staying up late I’m sure has an affect on my bsl score.
My trouble is the only exercise I get is walking to my bus out here and that’s about 40 steps. Another 40 steps or so getting off the bus to the train platform. There’s another 15 steps or so from the train platform to the upper concourse. Maybe another 50 steps or so from the time I get off the escalator to the set of lights on the corner of 106th and Jasper. Maybe another 75 steps from the set of lights to the pharmacy and another 15 from the pharmacy to the elevator. That’s about 235 steps double that for the way back is 470. But I walk back another way through the parkade Coming off the elevator to the street, is about 15 steps. Crossing the street is another 10 steps. The parkade is about another 80 steps to Corona station. So from the office to Corona station is about 80 steps and add the 15 to the train platform itself, is about 120 steps from the office to Corona station. + 40, +40, + 15. That’s about 215 steps back. It works out to be about the same. I’d say about 500 steps/day. That’s not counting moving around here in the apartment. There’s about 2,000 steps (according to Wiki Answers) in a mile. 10,000 steps is close to 5 miles. I’d like to get 1 mile‘s worth of walking/day. And I’m considering a pedometer this month to aid in counting steps towards that.
In the winter most of the sidewalks are supposed to be pretty good. We don’t get a lot of snow around here. I mean not like they do in the Eastern provinces. There’s usually about 8 inches of snow on the ground from first snow until April. Except when we get a large dumping of snow. We just get cold weather. But still, it’s not bad walking around main street sidewalks. They’re a good 6 feet wide in some cases. I think tomorrow I’m going to walk from our place out here to the church on 150th and see exactly how many steps that is.
My wife and I were talking about getting back to the adult swim at East glen pool south of Rexall place for the adult late night swim. They kick the kids out of there at 11pm. The leisure/rec center is right beside it. We’re considering going there once or twice/month. We like the hot tub but the cost to get in is $8. Seeing as how she works nights to midnight on a Saturday night we could always go on a Sunday night when I get off work. It’s not far from the 118th street overpass at Rexall place.
This afternoon I get my cheque. I was considering running up to my bank cash my cheque but that‘s a lot of work to do that in a half hour. I want to go to Audrey’s and get a book after work but I can do this Saturday when I get up. I don’t mind spending bus fare because Anne’s out of here early doing her shopping. She starts at 5pm-12 today. Next week will be different because I might be able to get a lift up the street from JT due to the extra hours I want to put in. I’ll have my stat pay on my cheque including some bonus money as well-maybe.
Speaking about getting books at Audrey’s because I’m a book club member, I get reward points towards further books. I’m almost at $20 now. The points can be cashed in when there’s $20 in the membership. Depending on what’s on my paycheque, I’m expecting only 19.5 hours so I‘ll have a little bit of cash to buy a book. Because Rob put the bid in for my stat pay on Tuesday I doubt it made the Monday cut off. Maybe but I doubt it. But next week, I’ll buy another book and that will give me $20 off. I want to apply that towards one of the Omnibus’s and maybe get the Annotated Legends. “Dragonlance.” I also have “The dark Elf trilogy” Omnibus. These are large books. I’ll buy 1 and get one free. First book is to get me to $20. I’ll cash in the points and put $12 or whatever towards the Omnibus. That’s about $55 bucks. Then I’ll just have the 3 Jim Butcher books, the Kate Elliott’s, the Ben Bova Omnibus and the CJ Cherryh and the New Jedi Order books. I should be down to the Elliot and Star Wars books by the end of the month. Hopefully in July I’ll have all the books cleared out of Special Order.
Anyway gang, that’s all for now
