The end of the month is always stressfull |
|
I had an uneventful trip into work yesterday and read for a bit on the train going in. I got my 6/49 ticket at the Pharmacy for the $23M draw this Saturday. We did WCS and even though I had a good start we got into the semies shortly before break. That was it for the taps. We’re not allowed to say send it back in a couple of months anymore. I had just under $400 by break and then it was semies for the whole of the second half. I got 1 card for $15 from the taps. I was more into the Esks game at Commonwealth the my job last night as the Esks were behind but pulled a head slightly before the half. When I left with my bag of empties they were 27/9 something. I had a brief chat with Anne on the way to Corona. She’s getting only 2 days next week and she’s not that happy so she’s going to look for something else and still keep her job.
I had an uneventful trip home except for the hoard of Eskimo fans at the Stadium LRT platform and as per Anne’s request to go into Superstore and get a few 2l of diet Cola. What I can carry. So I worked my way over to get a few bottles and a 10 minute wait in the line up later and I was sweating like a pig on the way home.
After a shower I felt better and ate my sandwiches and a can of pasta Anne had left for me catching up on the finale score of the game; 33-19 Esks. That brings them 3-2. I won $2 more from DC, hehehe.
On the news there was a story about how this one woman Twitted about finding mould in her apartment and the landlords are suing her for making inflammatory statements. “We don’t mind you living with mould just don’t go tell the world about it.” I hope she counter sues and makes those landlords pay through the nose. Again about Twitter horror stories where this NBA player Twitted about the quality of the referees and now the player is in trouble with the NBA league. Under settings you can chose to have your Tweets remain private or public. I personally don’t care because I would never disclose in my blog or Facebook page etc. private information. I have never disclosed what company I’m working at nor the name of the apartment I’m staying. If your going to be that careless enough to disclose details like that then you get what’s coming to you.
At Pat’s fantasy Hotlist he reviews Chris Wooding’s latest novel “Retribution Falls.” I love the cover art and will order it when it comes out in paperback. So I looked at Fantastic Fiction to see what else the author has written. I’m going to order his “Braided path” Omnibus (when I get this special order out of the way.) and “The Fade.” Pat labeled RF/Wooding as light scifi.
Coming up August 21st (my birthday) is Calgary’s Con-Version25. I’d love to go even if it’s just for the 1 day for photo ops, autographs and books signed. August 21st is on Friday. They have Terry Brooks, Tanya Huff and Robert J Sawyer. I would like to leave here in the morning stay for the afternoon and then leave that night. On the Saturday Dale and I are at Fort Edmonton Park Lodge and Sunday is Summerslam and sometime in there Anne wants to go to the Sawmill for my birthday. I‘m not too crazy about the Sawmill. The only thing preventing me from hoping on a bus to go down to Calgary would be that this is too short notice. And speaking of SFF conventions World Con is also underway. Io9 is suggesting Elizabeth Bear is there. Probably all the big names in SFF will be there this weekend.
Well gang, I narrowed my cell phone search down to the Iphone. It’s a 6 Gb data plan for $30/month. The plan Rogers say allow users to visit 36,000 Web pages, send or receive more than 157,000 emails or watch almost 6,300 minutes of YouTube videos each month. Some place charge 50 cents a download. But Apples Itunes is very accessible. Plus I can listen to local AM radio with Viigo. I can have all my video, music in one place and listen to the Oiler games on the way home from work and keep track of my sports scores and stocks on the ticker. I’d attach a pay as you go phone package along with that. And let me tell you, I did a lot of research before coming to the Iphone decision. I checked on the Blackberries, the Samsung’s and the Nokia’s and all the rest before I finally narrowed this down to the Iphone. This would be a nice birthday present for me.
Anne’s off to the bank to get the other half of the rent our bus pass etc. If I get my $20 I’ll have enough (and from what I have on hand) to get the Ben Bova Omnibus after work. I should have left at Audrey’s after tonight, the RA Salvatore Omnibus, the CJ Cherryh Omnibus (priced as a regular paperback), the 2 Jim Butcher books and the 7 Star Wars Jedi books. I’ll have 11 books left out of the original 23 from May. In August I hope to get the 2 Omnibus books and the 2 Butcher books. After that I’ll have the 7 Jedi books remaining. That’s where I want to be or better by labor day.
In business news today they were saying that the Federal Government expects to see us out of the recession this year. Right now they say the worst is over and we’re in the stabilization process before the initial recovery begins. What could hurt Alberta’s economy is the high Canadian dollar as the oil profit margin shrinks. We’re sitting at $92 right now. Yet last year the province was reaping in Billions of dollars in oil revenue’s even at a high Canadian dollar.
This weekend beginning tonight is the annual Heritage days event. It usually takes place on the August 1st long weekend. It’s not a stat holiday and I’ll be working Monday night that much is certain.
Tonight however, it’s off to the job, hopefully I can get my book after work then over to the bank cash my cheque and settle in for my Saturday off. In theory.
Anyway gang, that‘s all for now.
