Despite this cold I had a good weekend |
|
This is from yesterday but I headed downtown at 1pm getting off at Corona station under very warm skies. At Audrey’s I picked up the CJ Cherryh Omnibus “At the Edge of Space.” I have 10 books/23 around the end of April. When I got to the front doors there was nobody there, Soon one of the East Indian guys showed up and he called Greg who was upstairs. I got a dialer beside JT and had a decent first half pulling in about $405. I also got a $100 card and a $25 card. I called my wife at break and brought my insulin with me and ate a sandwich collected a few empties and washed my hands ready for part 2. It was slower in the 2nd half but I ended up with line hour for a $10 bonus, maybe.
I had a brief wait for my train and called Anne at Stadium. I also called the fellow with the plan and I’m meeting him at Burger King Tuesday. Today is Monday night Raw. Anne made me a great brunch and at 9pm we walked down to Empire theaters to cash in our free movie passes. I got a free diet Coke in a GI Joe official up. The movie promised to be really good and Anne sat with me until my film started (GI Joe) and she left for her movie a few doors down. Some clowns behind me were putting their feet up on the back of some vacant seats over to my left and behind me as nobody sat near me. They were yakking through most of the movie. I turned my head and said “Jerks.” I think one of them heard me saying “Jerks?” But about the 2/3rds of the way in the movie I got up and moved to the back of the theater. I should have gone to the back anyway from the beginning and I wouldn’t have had this problem. Despite the uncomfortable position of the theater I liked the movie.

Synopsis, GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra. James Bond meets Austin Powers meets Star Wars.
The skinny: A criminal mastermind has managed to weaponize a special kind of nanotechnology that decays metal. The good guys managed to obtain them. A special army unit is on a mission to transport these weapons only to have an attempt at taking these weapons and fail. The bad guys manage to obtain them and that’s when the fun starts.
Pros: Great writing, a dash of humor and relentless action. From beginning to end, this was a fun, fun movie.
Cons: The film GI Joe had some corny material and in some parts it got burdened down with cliché’s. You know the James Bond one where 007 walks into the lab and gets a demo/course on the latest gadgets? That’s in there too. Also the movie got a bit comic bookish there in parts.
Bottom line: If you like Sci-fi action adventure movies this one is for you. I liked everything about the movie except for the kids in the back behind me. This was one of the best movies that I’ve seen since Star Wars “Revenge of the Sith” in 2005.
9.5 e. Jim’s/10
Anne doesn’t want me to do extra hours until I’m over this cold, but I’ve got to go in for at least 3 days this week.
Anyway gang, that‘s all for now.
