I had a good sleep overnight.... |

as the last thing I did before bed was to finish CS Friedman's "The Wilding" at last. Here's a short review:
Review Summary: “The Wilding” is a sequel to its predecessor “In conquest born” by the same author that first appeared in 1987 and still in print. “The Wilding” was released by DAW in 2004 17 years later. It’s main theme is Physic Space Opera. This Daw book is mostly in the third person and has 512 pages including a nice glossary of terms going on for another 18 pages.

My Rating: 3.5/5
Would I recommend this book? Yes but read “In Conquest born” first and read them back to back like I did.
Pros: Lavish world building. Each scene is meticulously set up to it’s conclusion. The characters are well defined and their motives while not always clear materialize eventually. Wonderful writing. Good story telling.
Cons: I would have liked to have a few more action scenes but it is Space Opera after all. Pacing kind of lost me.
Bottom line: I enjoyed this book but took way too much time with it then I ordinarily should have for a Summer read. It took me 6 weeks to read this thing! This is a memorable book and it’s aftertaste still lingers. I’m going to read CS Friedman’s “Magistar trilogy” when book 2 is released in paperback. Next up: "In the company of others" Julie E Czerneda.
I woke up late this afternoon with a stiff sore left arm. mainly from my soar neck. Often it gets tight I need to lie on my side on the floor and "crack it." I think this added to the stiffness in my shoulder.
But tonight I'm in for my usual 4 hours .I want to go in early Friday with my documentation and have a talk with bm about my vacation pay. I'll call reception and ask for a release form. "They'll look into it for me." Yeah right. Last time I called payroll I got this snooty woman giving me attitude.
Over the many months I've been hearing about this Sci-fi project called "Avatar" not knowing if it's a game, novel or reality TV show. Too my surprise SF Signal has a trailer up and running of Avatar. I checked it out and wow! Apparently it is a movie and if this trailer is any indication it looks like this slated December 2009 Sci-fi film release will be the movie of decade. I'm excited. I just hope the story is as good as the CG.
Anyway gang, that's about all for now.
