This was a milestone

for me: I read a novel in 5 days. This in itself  is a testament to Thomas M. Reid's amazing 371 page turner "Truth and Steel." I totally loved this book and I thought Eric Brown's "Helix" was good. "Truth and Steel" was awesome. I couldn't put it down. I'll have a short review of this book later today.

Truth and Steel

Review Summary: Truth and Steel is the 2nd book with the Everquest logo on it. Truth and Steel first appeared in 2006 by cds and Sony Online. The overall theme of this book begins as a quest then an escape and a quest. It is a Fantasy book in the Everquest Universe and is 371 pages in length. The point of view is third person with thought internalization sprinkled about.

My rating 4.9/5

Pros: Action begins on page one and always ends a scene or a chapter on a cliffhanger. The writing is simple and doesn’t bog the reader down with terms one would think a game book might expect. The characters were awesome. The prose was face paced and the reading font easy on the eyes. The writing was tight and accessible. Would I recommend this book?

Cons: I would have liked to have seen a map of the world and maybe a little more continuity between scenes. I hope the author manages a sequel.

Bottom line: I enjoyed this book immensely. Of course I played the on line computer game Everquest This was the first book I read in less then a week. For many the books just drag on but this one was a pleasure to read.

Would I recomend this book? Yes, and you don’t need to have played Everquest to appreciate this wonderful book. The Characters are independent from the last Everquest book or even from the game itself.

 -------------------------------------------------------------

I had a difficult sleep over night what with the daytime heating and all. Before bed I broke off a piece of back tooth. There's no pain at all but it just feels uncomfortable.

In market news Disney went and bout out Marvel comics for $4B. Wow, that's a heck of a deal.

This afternoon Anne wants to go into the bank (if she gets there today) for our rent and bus pass. As for me I'm going in for my 4 hours and then home to watch Monday night Raw.

Yesterday though I headed into Audrey's and I bought the Ben Bova "Sam Gunn" Omnibus collection of Gunn short stories. I don;t know when I'm going to get around to read this thing but I do have a Ben Bova book added to my Reading next list. I have 8 books remaining and my Audrey's club points is about $15. I had a slow start to the shift yesterday and ended up with 1 $30 card and about $245 in sales. Not bad not great but I did leave with a lot of empties

Coast had a great show on last night and I caught a bit of it despite Truth and Steel keeping me up all night. Art Bell was on broadcasting from the Philippines talking about nanotechnology and other things.

Well, I didn't win the James Barclay "Chronicles of the Raven" series give-a-way over there at Pat's Fantasy Hotlist. I also didn't win the Jeff Somers "Electric church" series also.

Hard to believe I missed this: At SF Signal the other day they featured a boxed set of 13 Phillip K Dick novels. How cool is that?

Anyway gang, that's about all for now,

Jim
