It wsn't like I had no inclination

of a change in management or some kind of hint of change about to come. When I got to the office yesterday it was just Greg at the monitors. I nodded a polite hello to one of the new staff and took position by the end dialer. Jessica said in a snide way, "Have a good night tonight." Dave got all bent out of shape and admonished her. That's when Jatin told me that Moe, DC, Brendin, were relieved of their services. That guy I nodded the hello to is the new manager. Steve came up and shook hands with me smiling. Greg said there is no Sunday shift until further notice. Wow what a shocker. Usually a management position lasts about 12-18 months around here, 2 years tops before they change them around on us. Since I've been there we've had Mark, Dale, Will, Tony, Will again, JT, Moe and now Jerry. This will make 7 managers within the last 9 years. All of them had been pretty good to me. This new guy is from the Vancouver office and represents the first time in my tenure a manager hired outside our office. He's a younger guy that ran Vancouver business room. He'll last about 1-2 years. I had a slow night as we did CFK for the first half and then Bob the 2nd half. Jerry was giving away a $20 cash bonus for the top total with cards. Apparently he wants to do this every night. Steve said 9 years ago our office was #2 in the country and Jerry wants to return the office to that position. The thing is we lost a lot of campaigns because of the trouble we got into with a near lawsuit on our hands. We had Search and rescue, Legends alive, Saint Mikes, Baseball Bonanza, Comedy fest, Add among others. Also we're calling our source 3-4 times/year when before we had enough charities to call once a year back in the day.  Also, we're getting a lot of new people doing taps and burning them as well.

I let Jerry know I used to work Sunday shift just recently for Saturday because I'm diabetic and mornings were hard on me and I'd like to opt out for Saturday's. Prior to that Rob and I had a nice talk about extra hours and I said how I've been ambivalent about putting in extra hours only because I'm diabetic and I'd get played out by 7:30pm. He suggested why not put in 3 days/week and try it out. So before leaving I talked with Jerry about the Saturdays and I'll work Monday-Friday 1:30-9pm with Saturday and Sunday's off. As far as a Doctors note goes, well, I don't know. I'd need to go all the way up to Terralosa in the West end. I think he's open on a Saturday.

So much for the staff party I guess we were going to have Saturday. Just as well, I'm not really into those kinds of things anyway. We didn't have the TV on as well all night. Does this mean we'll get our cheques back on Thursdays now?

Of course I let Jerry know about Lodge nights. I'm covering all my bases now while I can. Nobody said anything but I ended up with about $90 on the night and others didn't fare much better them I did. I'd rather do just BOB or CFK.  We're going to see how this new guy does, if he's a Hitler or a nice guy.

Anyway, Anne's on her way out to sell bottles. I've got Lodge duty tonight. I'm thinking about holding back on that Lodge book because I want to buy my book this weekend but I think I should get it out of the way. I can miss one week without buying a book and next week if I get all my vacation pay in, I can see about that other thing and the license and possibly get the I phone. But I need to find somebody with the Iphone that has Viggo already on their phone and what kind of reception does Ched come across as. Ched has the Oiler, Eskimo and Coast to Coast broadcasts. Plus I can catch the 2nd half of Hardcore sports talk radio. And Viigo is one application.

And finally I took this photo at the weather channel a few minutes ago. It's just before Labor Day weekend and it's already +31C out there. Beautiful, I love it like this. Friday is showing +21C but that's still not bad for this time of year.

One more thing about the job, I need to go in on Saturday and that will give me 27.5 hours on the week. Most hours I've had in over a year. I'm basically going in to make up for missing tonight and because the office is closed Sunday and Monday due to the labor day long weekend. After that my 2 days off begin this week but this weekend it's Sunday and Monday and next weekend it's going to be Saturday and Sunday. We have to go in the day before and the day after to qualify for the stat holiday pay. The day before happens to be on a Saturday. I wont mind working 34.5 hours as long as I get Saturday/Sunday off. The only time I'll be going in for Saturday is when I have a Lodge night.

Anyway gang, that's all for now,

Jim
