It's been a Pure Spec weekend

I’m having a pretty good day of things so far.

Rant alert! Last nights late local news had clips of 10 more Greenpeace eco terrorists and how RCMP hauled them off in shackles. I didn’t see Mike Hudema there. He sends his foot soldiers out to do his bidding so they can take the heat while he sits back and orchestrates everything. He’s there hugging the returning hero with hugs that he paid for by earning a criminal record along the way. The mother is looking on at her baby with hopeful eyes “my hero”-gag. This makes it the 3rd publicity stunt Greenpeace eco terrorists have pulled within the last 3 weeks. The Greenpeace eco terrorists each received 1 count of mischief and each one of these Greenpeace eco terrorists are banned from Fort MacMurray except when they have to report to the RCMP once a week. If they don’t then they could be jailed for 10 years. I wish. Also there was only 1 Albertan out of the 10 Greenpeace eco terrorists. Yeah because nobody wants to go to jail. Most of them were from Europe and other parts of the country anyway. The problem with Greenpeace is they are great at getting publicity but short on solutions. Oilsands expert Satya Das says that it’s a lie to use the old average of 3.5 barrels of water for 1 barrel of oil. It’s more like 1 barrel of water for 5.5 barrels of oil. And they say coal is the way to go. Excuse me? Coal is inexpensive and abundant yes. It is also dirty. The average 600-megawatt power plant emits four to five million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year. There are over 600 coal-fired power plants in the United States and 21 in Canada. Think about that next time you drive to a Greenpeace rally. And what about the carbon footprint Greenpeace left behind in getting the European eco terrorists here to Alberta? Or how about even transporting them up to the Suncor facility itself? All of this activity Greenpeace Canada has been launching lately at Suncor is to draw international attention to the tar sands at the Copenhagen summit. Or UN COP 15 as it’s called, December 18th this year. It’s Greenpeace Canada’s agenda to stop the tar sands. But at what cost? Too send thousands of people out of work here in Alberta? This smells more of politics then it does of climate change.

About 12:30pm I got out of bed after a late night not getting to sleep until about 4:30am. Anne’s having her sister Pat and her husband Barry coming to the city for a visit. They have other family here and we’re on their itinerary. Anne’s been going nuts with cleaning driving me up the wall with her compulsion. They will be arriving Tuesday to spend time with Anne and maybe take us out to dinner. She hasn’t seen them in over 18 years but she’s talked to Pat on the phone a lot I’ve talked to Pat on a few occasions as well, nice people.

When we were watching the late night news last night after the rather revolting Greenpeace story, something more cheerful emerged; They were interviewing the Pure Speculation festivities at the Shaw conference center. I sort of had an hint it was at the Shaw but I wasn‘t sure. They’ve always had it at the Hazledean community center and that was way out of the way for most people. I’m glad they had it at the Shaw. Next year if it’s there, I’ll go for sure. Because it starts on a Friday night, I could have even taken Friday night off this year if I was prepared a little more. Next year due to the new hour changes at work I’m going to work Friday morning get my pay-check take care that, run down to Audrey’s. Then home get a bite to eat and leave with Anne down to the Shaw for an evening of Pure Speculation. The following day, I go into work Saturday morning as usual and then up to Pure Spec for a few panels etc. I’ll stop as far as the costume shindig. But to have it there at the Shaw is really convenient for me for next year. This is a good time.

Anyway gang, that’s about all for now

Jim
