Another chilly Wednesday |

I’m enjoying my first coffee. I’ve been doing a lot of JFK assassination research lately, which is why I missed yesterdays diary entry even though I made a blog post. Tonight I’m going to really go hard on the FC exam and my FC parts for tomorrow night. I’ve been missing reading “The Space Wolf” Omnibus over the last few days as well because of this FC thing that‘s been getting to me. I mean in a good way.
I had a great night on the job getting back after a couple of days off. The sales were coming in good and strong and so were the cards. We had the Flames/CBJ NHL game on and the Flames lost 2-1. I was happy about that. I got a nice selection of empties and almost shared top total with Danny and Sundeep for the $20 bonus. Danny pulled ahead in front of me by $5 so my total was $695 plus 4 cards for a $15 bonus on my paycheck next week. I like nights like that.
Unfortunately I ended up riding with 4 of the guys from work. Uggh. I wanted a seat by myself. No such luck but at least the city had extra cars on the train for an event of some kind. Global wouldn’t have anything on about it so there‘s no way of telling. There will be extra cars on the train Friday because the Oilers are at home to the Wild here.
Over there at Adventures in reading the blog owner has been reading James Blaylock’s “The Ebb Tide.” It’s a Subterranean press Steampunk novella. This one has caught my attention lately and I might place an order but I want to get some of the missing Rich Horton anthologies, I’ve been missing out on. But only if they are still in Trade. But I’m not going to order something like 27 books again. I also want to be working on the rest of Steve Erikson’s Malazan series as well.
Tonight, it‘s back into the job thing for hopefully another round like last night. Tonight the Oiler‘s are in Chicago and most likely Khabibulin will be in line up facing his old team. This always puts pressure on the new players coming back to their previous rink from the year before. Give Khabibulin a break and put Jeff Deslauriers in net.
I try to have my nose in a book on my daily commute. Occasionally I get asked (mostly by University students on their way home at night) what am I reading? I hold up the book cover: “Ahh, sci-fi.” Nope it’s science fiction. Sci-fi is film TV video games etc. This almost always generates a brief discussion. Occasionally I’ll get someone also sitting down opposite me asking the above pulling out a book. “Have you ever read this author?” So when I get asked, “What does science fiction mean,” to me, I always say it’s about putting people against ideas in strange settings. “But I’ve always thought it’s about the Future.” In some cases yes. But is Star Wars about the Future? No. The future would be how it applies to our history. The book I’m currently reading “The Space Wolf” isn’t about “the future.” There’s no reference to our current society today. This is why science fiction isn’t always about “The Future.” An example of science fiction books “About the future” would be L. Ron Hubbard’s “Battlefield earth.” A science fiction book not about “The Future” would be Star Wars. I know that’s a simplified view of science fiction, I’ll try to put up an article in my “for what it’s worth” block eventually.
Finally, Coast to coast last night wasn’t bad from what little of it I’ve listened to. They touched base on just about everything. Especially about global warming. Or as I cal lit global warming hooey! One of my heroes in the global warming debate is Lord Christopher Monckton former science advisor to the British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Most people realize that Al Gore’s global warming is junk science. I’ll have an article on my position up soon. Even George Noory agrees that Al Gore’s global warming is junk science. Copenhagen 2020 is just another revamped Kyoto. India and China most likely will not participate again. Most supporters of Al Gore GW or AGW as it’s often referred to are the political left. I’m left wing and even myself not an expert on this issue can see the junk in this hooey science. More about this another time.
Anyway gang, that’s about all for now
