Gradually getting over the loss of Pledges

This is our first Halloween week without Pledges. When we brought Pledges home Friday morning the first thing Anne did was to clean him up. His body that is. He had blood all over his mouth. She cleaned up the blood in and around his mouth and apparently cancer had taken a large chunk of his tongue out. There’s was no way he was going to survive that. I felt bad I bought him another day when we should have taken him in Thursday only Anne didn’t have her paycheck in her account until Friday morning. Our most immediate concern was to ease his discomfort.

I went through losing my dad when I couldn’t be there while he was in a coma. I had major dental work done which involved several root canals. I had to take a flight to Victoria where my mother was on her deathbed. I had to say goodbye to her while she was in a coma and died before my eyes.

The hardest thing I ever had to do in my life was to take my buddy to the vet and have him put down last Friday morning.
I had 2 cataract eye surgeries done and almost went blind. I was held up in the Royal Alex hospital for a week recovering from diabetes. Pledges was with me during all of those times. The hardest thing I ever had to do in my life was to take my buddy to the vet and have him put down last Friday morning. I love you Pledges, always.

I’m looking forward to some interesting SFF movies out and coming. Out now is Surrogates with Bruce Willis. Then 2012 is just around the corner. Then there’s The Avatar coming out soon and if that’s not enough there’s Last of the Airbender. Some good looking movies and it’s not even the Summer movie season. The other thing I’m excited about is the upcoming Star Wars live action TV series. Apparently coming out in 2012. If the real thing or the H1N1 thing doesn’t wipe us all out.

Speaking about the H1N1 the Federal Government has the Flu shot ready for Canadians today. It’s a free shot but I’m not going to take it. Why? Mainly because it hasn’t been officially approved by health Canada. A lot of Canadians are ambivalent about taking it. For many like myself, I feel the whole H1N1 thing is overblown. I don’t want to be a ginny pig for a drug that hasn’t been properly tested.

Last nights Monday night Raw was my first Raw without Pledges. He’d always sit up with me on his pillow and “watch” the show with me. Last nights show was particularly enjoyable even if it was without Pledges. On a scale from 1-10, I’d rate this Raw an 8.5. Very good.

Not only does it look like I’m going to get a new laptop for Christmas but once we have Pledges cremated our rent paid up we’re getting Boot’s fixed up as the newest addition to our little family. He just has to realize that Silky is the cat of the House now.

SF Signal gave out the table of contents to the new anthology by Eric Choi and Derwin Mak “Dragon and the stars.” The forthcoming anthology features 18 Science Fiction and Fantasy stories. I’m looking forward to this anthology.

On Coast this evening the topic s on Astrology and Consumer trends. As far as Astrology goes there are 17 different historical traditions. There are 12 different Western recent developments and 13 different systems of astrology. I’ll listen in for awhile and see what type of astrology he’s talking about

Anyway gang, that’s about all for now

Jim
