I've got a busy weekend coming up and it begins today |

Oh brother, so yesterday Anne got the Best Buy store to hold the last (apparently) Acer laptop $445. They said they’d hold it for 2 hours. Anne decides it’s quicker if we walk to the LRT. With two trains waiting it stays there for like about 10 minutes. We’re against a ticking clock. We’re getting off the train at Central to catch a #9 by the journal. It’s one of those articulated buses. It’s a long ride to Southgate. Then as luck would have it the #74 to South Commons Best Buy. By this time it was about 1:30pm. We managed to get to within 2 blocks of Best Buy and that’s when the wind picked up and the parking lot was like a sheet of black ice. We got inside the store and shortly we got the computer and the guy said there now were 11 in stock that had only arrived. Yeah right. The package for the laptop itself was like a black attache case with a nice carrying handle. Anne out it inside her cloth bag to store it for the trip home. We also got a router to go along with it. As we were waiting for the bus back to Southgate the wind chill and temperature must have dropped significantly as we were inside the store. There was a tiny 2 seat bus shelter occupied by one so we had to stand. The bus came by shortly but the trip to Southgate was a good 20 minutes. We had to work around the construction to the Southgate terminal but I felt better after having some “Taco time.” We got a #6 to South Campus LRT and from there we were home free. We got in just shortly before 5pm.
The first thing I did was call Neil and secure a ride for the Lodge. Then I unpacked the computer and got it to work ok as I’m feeling things around.
Time to turn it off get ready for Neil as it was closing close to pick up Jim time.
I had a good time at the installation. That was my last time as Tyler. We did the install and then investing of officers. I did my FC WT bang on and the install of the organist bang on. I like being active in Lodge rather then just sitting in a chair. It was a long night but mostly what took up the bulk of the time was all the visitors making statements at the festive board, all very nice. I had a couple of cans of diet Coke. Neil had brought with him a colleague to play organ as he had another role to play. I got in about 11:15pm. First thing I did was check the Oiler’s/SJ game. 4-1 Oiler’s!
So I’m powering up the laptop getting windows ready and watching the batter power down. I’m mostly struggling with the router trying to configure the thing. Then the screen goes blank. No power. By this time I wasn’t feeling too happy with my “big purchase.”
I powered the laptop up overnight and about 10am this morning checked to see if I had power. Nothing. I called Best buy explained my situation and I can come in Saturday with my router and they’ll replace it for me. They have one on hold waiting for me for tomorrow. This means I’ll be working until 4:30pm, run home to pick up the computer-5pm, take train to South campus, that’ll be 5:30pm by the time I get a #6 to Southgate. 6:30pm by the time I leave Southgate 7pm by the time I get the $74. 7:30pm by the time I get to Best buy. I wont get home until about 10pm on a cold Saturday evening.
I’ll miss the Oiler game of course and maybe I’ll even meet Anne coming out of work at Central. Then Sunday she wants to drag me out for our anniversary dinner at the Saw Mill.
I don’t know what’s going on with my new laptop. The guy that sold it to me said I got a lemon. Before I leave the store tomorrow, I’m going to make sure the laptop works. I’m going to ask questions.
