geek with a laptop.

It's been a nice day and even the weather cooperated.

I had a difficult time trying to get a ride to Lodge last night. Firstly, Neil said his blood pressure was so low he couldn’t risk driving. I called Nathan but he’s having a night off because his wife just had a baby girl two days a go and George was driving down to Phoenix. I called Kelly (WM) maybe I was going to have a night off to watch the CBJ/Oiler game since Anne had the bus pass so I was kind of left hanging. I called Kelly and he said he could pick me up. I was a bit disappointed. Ok, he came by about 6:30am and we got to Lodge being what looked like the first ones there.

Seems John was there before anyone setting the place up. The meeting was long because WM introduced this “Meet the Lodge officers night.“ I got up and did my thing. One nice thing about being JS/SS is we don’t have to stick around to put things away. The festive board consisted of take out Pizzas anyways. I had a couple diet cola, the usual. The festive board was nice even though we got out a bit late. By 11:15pm I tried called calling Anne. She wasn’t answering the phone. I figured she’d be in the bedroom locking herself away with Boots. After cleaning up the festive board Kelly drove me home. I think next month I’m going to visit the Lodge that’s in the temple the night previous to us in our building. It’s a Scottish Rite Lodge. Reg’s Lodge and most of the guys in Lodge (all 17 of us due to a low turn out.) go to this Lodge on the Wednesday before. I got home shortly before midnight. Anne was out at Walmart.

But I’m up early this morning because I promised Gerry I’d work a morning shift to make up for missing last nights shift. Hopefully I can do well to stay for the afternoon shift. Because we got our GST check in yesterday Anne’s not worried if I don’t get my pay check traditionally today because I missed last Saturday. I’ll get it tomorrow.

This morning I was up at 6:45am very tired but alert and ready to go. I got the 8:15am train. I can remember (and it wasn’t that long ago) the train was almost standing room only leaving Clairview station at that hour in the morning. But the recent downturn in the economy might be responsible for the lack of LRT passenger traffic. Strange because the parking lot at Belvedere was full.

I got in being the only one there other then the little girl running the phone room. Jerry showed up and I had my coffee. When we got underway we had 4 of us. I got off to a good start. They only wanted $150 by the end of the shift. I got 2 sales of $20 each but nothing for the rest of the shift. There was 6 of us there at break. Jerry was handing out pay checks and what a surprise, I got. I got my vacation pay and my New Years stat pay. And I had the Saturday after New Years day off! Getting my pay check was a nice surprise but I didnt't bring my bank card with me. I ended up redeeming myself at the end of the shift with another $20 sale but it was on a credit card. That made e feel a little better. I asked Jerry if I could work the afternoon shift but I wasn’t “cost effective” enough my first day getting back to mornings to stay. I had my coat on and already to leave anyway.

I exited out the building feeling petty good except my performance at work. Jerry would prefer to have me work afternoons/evenings because I work taps and I can make more money and be cost effective. But this is only one morning out of 6 days. It’s the same hours 3.5 either way. But I was having an off day this morning.

After work I headed over to Audrey’s books and I did some shopping. None of my other special order books came in yet. I still had the special order one there behind the counter waiting patiently for me to pick up. No doubt all the other books I orederd a few weeks ago are stored in the back for me waiting until I pick up this one special order book. I’ve had it there for the last 2 months now anyway. Watch as soon as I pick that one up a flood of them will come in the next day. I did not have quite enough for thespecial order book already there but I was able to shop around and I picked up Timothy Zhan’s “Odd girl out.” Book 3 of the Frank Compton series. I knew he had 2 coming out or both out. I was “behind” with this one. I paid for the book. I have another 4 books to get before I can cash in on the club points for a free book which is equal to the value of the single special order book I have waiting to be picked up.

I was so tied on the train home I just about passed out. My bus home at Clairview station under -5 sunny skies was just pulling out of the station and it waited to pick up passengers. I got home and my wife was still in bed!

I had a nice relaxing evening by myself as I was able to have a bit of a nap for a few hours. I got up around 6pm and enjoyed a quiet Friday night off for a change.

I really like this Friday morning shift. I hope they let me keep coming in on Friday mornings like this. It’s a good shift especially what with me being diabetic and all it gets hard to do a Friday night shift and having to get up for a full day 8 hours later. At least this way I get a bit of a semblance of a weekend. I had a great Friday night off even though I didn’t win the $40M Lotto Max million. Anyway, that's all for now.
