Closing out a pretty good Friday

I was awake about 3am this morning as Anne’s turning in for the night woke me up. For about 3 hours after that I couldn’t fully get to sleep.

I headed into work after that arriving in the office at 8:25am. The business room people were filing in coming into family for headsets and chairs that we took from their section the night before. I had a slow start but the calls weren’t there. BM comes in as Super was getting me a $20 card. That was about all the sales I got. The calls were so slow. We had 6 of us calling but the two vacant dialler’s between the guy that sat beside and the other guy slowed the calls down. Happens every time there are unfilled gaps in the system. I got one more sale for $40. That was it. I thought BM was going to call me into the office like he did Darryl sitting at 0 for 2.5 hours. Me and the guy beside megot abot 70 cals and most of them were answering machines or people wanting information. It was the credit card sale and my last one late in the shift that saved me from that axe to drop. But I got my pay check.

Anne didn’t put her bank card in my pouch/bus pass holder but she encouraged me to come strait home anyway. But I had a book to buy at Audrey’s and one of the day Super’s said before Ileft the office, there were a lot of cans in a bag for me in the storage room. They asked me to stay for the afternoon shift but I was feeling pretty beat.

I picked up book #2 in Mercedes Lackey’s “Arrow’s Flight” series. And I got a decent pay check and a huge whack of empties a book to take home and the rest of the day off.

Anne was still sleeping when I got in through the door. She made me lunch and paid the balance of January’s rent and she’s off at work while I’m holding down the fort for the rest of the night.

Tomorrow, however I’m up at about 6am and out the door for 9am for 6 hours. Saturday if I’m up for it, I’d like to go out and get a bite to eat somewhere. The Oiler’s are in SJ tomorrow for a rare Saturday afternoon game starting at 2pm.

My wife and I are Coast to Coast fans. We love the radio show when they have something decent going on, which is usually 2-3 times/week. Usually on the weekend Ian Punnet’s shows are boring. Sorry but he doesn’t often have the kind of topics I like. One thing I’m going to do is to subscribe to “Streamlink.” It’s getting the show on demand all the time. Subscribers can get the show downloaded right onto their Iphones. For $54/year, its not a bad deal. Quite often the calls are slow at work and it’d be nice to have the better shows to listen to in one ear and the customer in the other. Especially of there’s no hockey game on. This is something I’d like to do after the Lodge dues are paid off.

So good ol’ Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach went and shuffled his cabinet earlier this week. Yawn. I get the feeling that Ed is not a very good leader. He’s more of a follower then a leader. I’d much rather see the Wild Rose party get in then “steady Eddy.” What soured me on this guy was when he imposed royalties onto the oil companies in October 2007. If Stelmach would have left things alone our unemployment picture here in Alberta would be a lot better off then it is currently. Of course at that time Alberta was still booming and almost nobody would have thought recession. When Stelmach listened to his critics and agreed to impose the royalty rate oil was sitting about $90/barrel. Oil companies said that there would be layoffs and less activity, projects would be cancelled if the Premier didnt listen to them. That’s exactly what happened. Then a year later the economy went down hill and the rest is history. Now we’re in recession recovery mode. Even though the Alberta economy got a little better in the last quarter, we’re still no better off then when we were in January 2008. The recession hit Alberta in November 2008 and the economy is getting a little better. But it cold take another year of this before we return to 2008 levels. So far Ed Stelmach doesn’t impress me.

I had a great night off and I like this working Friday mornings even though Gerry probably doesn’t think very much about it.

I entered another Pat Fantasy Hotlist book give-away contest. This time it’s Kay Kenyon’s “Prince of Storms.” I’d love to win this series. Looks pretty good. Anyway, that’s all for now.
