City of Pearl was a good read after all. So here’s a brief review of the book:
City of Pearl
Review Summary: Three separate alien societies have claims on Cavanaugh’s Star. But the new arrivals— the gethes from Earth— now threaten the tenuous balance of a coveted world. The year 2198 Superintendent Shan Frankland is looking forward to calling it quits in the Environmental Hazards unit, retiring and finally growing those contraband, non-genetically-modified tomato seeds her father cultivated.

My rating 3/5
Pros: The writing was tight and the interplay of chracters was handled very well. Strong debut novel. Lots of character development between all the alien races.
Cons: City of pearl is good. I was going to chuck it about 120 pages in and I‘m glad I didn‘t.
Bottom line : I didn’t care to much how initially the book seemed to drag on and the British slang didn’t work for me. Not enough action. It felt stiff like a first novel.
Would I recommend this book? Yes, it is good science fiction without getting hardcore on the reader. I’m right into the sequel of this book.
My wife’s about to leave out of here for her Doctor’s appointment and I’m holding down the fort until I go into work. She suggested I stay home tonight and that would have been a good idea if I went in for the morning shift she talked me out of. It’s a shame too because it’s her birthday week.
And I felt bad about not being able to buy my wife a birthday present or even a Christmas present. She had the money, I didn’t but that was my fault not hers. So I called into work and passed a message and said because of my wife’s birthday I won’t be coming in. Jerry wasn’t even in there today. I’ll be in there tomorrow from 1-9 all week.
Tonight about 6:45pm we’re going over to BP’s and she’s going to order me a burger and fries because she’s ill she’s just going to get a salad. We’ll watch Monday night Raw or the Oiler game in Columbus.
As for me I have a free night and I’ve got a few things here to do.
I had a great day today. I got my PP account set up and Anne and I went to BP’s around 4pm for a Monday supper. I had the cheese burger and fries and we shared an apple crisp desert. Good stuff. I was able to get the Oiler game on half way through the first period. Anne went out to Superstore across the street and I watched the last of the Oiler’s game as they lost 5-3. It was a decent game as well. Then I was able to watch all of the early showing of Monday night Raw with Stone Cold Steve Austin as guest referee. This was a great show. On a scale of 1-10, I’d rate it an 8.5.
Now I have the rest of the afternoon off. Tuesday and Wednesday I’m in the office 1-9 and Thursday it’s 9am-4:30pm. If I do well. Then Friday 9-4:30pm. All depends on weather or not I make line hour of course for the morning/afternoon shift. If I get line hour then I’ll stay if not then I’ll come back for a split shift. Other then that, that’s all for now.
