Another one of those dog days of Summer

On this day 11 years ago, July 16th 1999 I recall I was putting in some “work experience” with Army & Navy and I was asked if I’d like to come along over to the warehouse (Cobogo) to drop off this heavy 12 foot long iron fence. I actually wanted to get a look inside the  old place I use to work. I actually left my name on one of the support posts, as the guy said for me to hurry up. Little would I realize the building would be sold a year latter and renamed Cobogo lofts. I didn’t know hat then, but today it’s a high end Condo unit behind the Grand hotel. It would be on that Friday coming back I had a little credit account at the store a few blocks North of where I was staying and I charged up a few things for the weekend. I got myself a little security guard job shortly after that, working that until shortly after Y2K until about February, 2000 when I went on EI.

Early this morning as I couldn’t sleep, I listened to The Dragon page, Cover to Cover. The two hosts were talking about Prince and how Prince said “The Internet is over.” Ok. Apparently he’s going to be distributing his music in a free CD to be published in the British tabloid “The Mirror.” Sure how long will it take before this is up on YouTube? I don’t know If the CD has been out yet. I like Prince’s earlier stuff but I’m not a huge fan. The shows hosts also interviewed SFF author David Drake. It was a short podcast lasting for about 38 minutes. The author lives in the state of Washington, been there many times. “The Internet is over,” yeah, right.

I’m sitting here enjoying my first coffee. This Friday marks the 10th anniversary of the Pine lake Tornado we had that ripped through Central Alberta. I remember I was staying across the street from the JP Legion. I didn’t have power hooked up at the time so I ran a cable from my close door to the Inside of my place. I had to use a little hot plate to cook on. I was on unemployment insurance feeling miserable about my outlook on life. Those were stupid days for me back then.

Some character is out there disturbing the peace running a weed eater, those things make a lot of racket.

Work is still going along just fine, although we have a bunch of new staff. They hired about 20 new people, most of them will be gone by the end of the month. The other night Anne rented “Shutter island” from across the street. She said it was a stupid movie. I don’t like the horror movies they have out today anyway. Does nothing for me.

Yesterday I got into this discussion on the “Connect 2 Edmonton” forum in the West LRT thread. I’ve got a map from the downtown LRT thread posted in March showing  blue route lines on a map. The WLRT (tentative) is supposed to go through the legislature intersects at Corona up 107th and makes a left at 104th Ave. Um “the ledge” as us locals call it, is already served by Grandin Station. it’s a stupid plan that has the leg branching off at 102nd Ave heading East to City Center a few blocks away from the already established train route. “This plan” even bypasses the proposed Arena district. I’m known as “envaneo” on the thread. My CMS hasn’t been very good with links lately. Anyway, that’s all for now.
